What NFL team do you root for? And agaisnt? And why
Just curious. Talking about the annoying love em/hate em Cowboys on another thread when someone commented on how "low profile" their team was here.. Seems like a lot of Pats and Green Bay fans here.
My team is (for those few who don't know this loudmouth) the Washington Redskins and ANYONE playing the Dallas Cowboys (I think I have a claim to being an original rival/hater thanks to George Allen's fine work). Lived in DC for 35 years..been around Skins fans all my life really...

1. Interesting thread
I wonder what inspired this?

My team is the Arizona Cardinals. Who I hate is interesting to me, it used to be the NFC East teams (especially the Cowboys) from when the Cards were in the same division but after so many years in the West I don't feel any hate or dislikes towards NFC East teams. I still don't root for the Cowboys to win though but they don't bother me nearly as much as they used to. I hated the Chiefs in the 90's and early this decade because I root for the Broncos out of the AFC. However lately I like them because they have Todd Haley as head coach and he was the Offensive Coordinator for the Cardinals 2 years ago.

If I have to pick one team to hate, it is the Seattle Seahawks. When you combine their time in the AFC West and NFC West, they have built enough dislike in me that they are my #1 hated team. I don't hate the Seahawks like a Packers fan hates a Vikings fan or a Washington fan hates a Dallas fan if you know what I mean.

5. The Cards are actually my favorite NFC team...
and while there isn't really any team that I actively cheer against, I do always hope that the Jets somehow manage their way to the top of the AFC East. That obviously involves some teams losing.

6. Give you dad my condolences,
(just kidding).

But all who grew in that area know of the hatred between all the teams in that division.

All four teams within a couple of hours drive from Pittsburgh.

The NFL at least got this right when they made the divisions.

7. Pats.
Obviously. I root against the 'boys, the Raiders, and the other AFC East teams, of course. I grew up in Maine, where there is a fairly monolithic love of all the teams from the Boston area. There does seem to be a lot of us (Pats fans) here - probably a combination of geographic bias in DU's membership (northeast liberals) and recent successes of the team.

And I despise the Jets. It's really the only team I can't stand with a passion.

Have been one all my life... even though they made some pretty dumb mistakes. Like the Hershel Walker trade with the cowturds and the current Bret Favre fiasco.

The team I truly despise with a passion is the steelers. Never liked them. I lived in North east Ohio in the mid to late 1970's and had to endure the sheer arrogance of those rotten fuckers like bradshaw, lambert and the rest of the assholes. They have not changed over the years and have cheated to win a superbowl and now have a serial rapist for a 1/4-back...

Because when I was a kid, they were great. Lombardi era and all that. And I never jumped off the bandwagon. NFL wise, I root against the Bears, Vikings and the Cowboys. I root against the Bears and Vikings because they are divisional rivals and I root against the cowboys because I am sick of them and have been since 1967. Like their alleged qb, Don Meredith used to say, "Turn out the lights, the party's over." And I am loving all the anguish the 'boys are going through. Now if only the yankees could go through the same thing...

The Skins are actually fun to watch but I root against them.

I root against Indianapolis because - the move, don't like Manning, don't like Tony Dungy (even if he is gone)

19. Dolphins, although I don't root as passionately as the Orange Bowl days
Same with the Canes. The current stadium sucks. I pay attention but there's little hope of the ultimate prize in the bland dump so I don't kid myself.

The early '70s Dolphins from my youth are my all time favorite sports team. Run, run, run some more. Game over in 2:35, the opponent battered and frustrated.

Jets are my #2 rooting interest. Great escape vs. Detroit yesterday. I attended Super Bowl III and have appreciated the Jets ever since, particularly when Parcells restored the old uniforms after the Gang Green crap from the '80s and early '90s. It's hysterical when younger fans on Dolphin message boards scream at me for liking the Jets. Meanwhile, as I continually point out to them, obsession with the Jets pays such big dividends for the team the Dolphins have lost 9 straight the week after facing the Jets, 8 of them by double digits. That should be impossible in the NFL. It's like Miami plays a 14 game schedule and 2 annual forfeits. Well done.

#3 is the Giants. Recent addition. I attend Saratoga and enjoy watching Giants camp in Albany. Besides, the denial of New England three years ago is the greatest sporting outcome of the past 30 years. I'd support a daily parade, forever.

I don't hate any specific franchise. I despise pantyhose passing teams. Whoever qualifies at a point in time, I root against them. The Run and Shoot Oilers were one. Recently it's been Andy Reid and his masochistic imbalance. Of course, the trend is spreading league wide due to rules changes and the lazy coaching that attaches. Far simpler to toss the ball into a secondary prohibited from contact than to relocate massive humans in the running game.

Otherwise, I can't stand terrible uniforms and logos. The older franchises are generally awesome. But the newer members are generally over done, and the Palmolive Seahawks are sickening, likewise anyone with grotesque dark on dark color schemes. How can Buffalo prefer the current USFL-type uniforms and logo to their fantastic '60s color scheme and plain buffalo logo? That atrocious decision alone warrants 0-8.

Oh yeah, any team that has multiple Gators, I generally root against them. I'd trade Channing Crowder for a towel.

36. That is 2003 isn't it?
I see that is Elam lining up for an XP in a game they won 45-27. I think the scoreboard indicates a 1 play 53 yard touchdown which would explain a Clinton Portis TD to go up 44-21 (pending the XP). Trent Green scored late in the game but failed the two.

It is one of the most memorable games I ever watched. I remember after the game the reporter mentioned to Clinton Portis he scored 4 TDs in a game against the Chiefs the year before and in that game he scored 5 touchdowns. Portis said something along the lines, "Next year, maybe I will score 6 touchdowns against them." As you probably know, he was trading during the off-season and he didn't score against the Chiefs the first he played them since leaving the Broncos. (Yes, I cared enough to pay attention to something like that).

I also remember Eddie Kennison(former Broncos player) saying some things about Shannahan the week leading up to game. Something about how he has his players on puppet strings. Back then, I figured it was trash talk but these days I'm starting to wonder if there was something to that.

the tragic and the glorious with the G-men ever since I was 10 years old.

In my younger years, I was also a Miami Dolphins fan because of their balding soccer-style placekicker named Garo Yepremian.

The teams I dislike are the NFC East rivals Dallas, Washington, and Philadelphia.

Especially the Eagles. I hate them and their fans worse than yellowjackets and hornets.
First off, the attitude. When they beat the Giants, they act as if they've won the Super Bowl. (Yeah, how many rings do THEY have?) And their fans are worse than animals. (After all, they DID boo a man wearing a Santa Claus outfit once upon a time).

37. None. My holy day is Saturday. The people who play on Sunday are boorish, boring, sleep inducing..
...glory hounds and syncophants. Just watch any NFL pregame show and they talk about the matchups of personalities or storylines, not strategies or statistics. Watch the players themselves as they pose for the camera during the game and tweet for induvidual fame after the game.

College is just a more exciting game to watch. The play calling is more daring, the fans are into it more, you have bands, chants and traditions and the players actually get up against "rivals". There are no "rivalries" in the NFL amonst the players, only the fans. They could give two shits from one week to the next until playoff time.

Cam Newton? Nick Saban? Tim Tebow? Urban Meyer? I like college football but its everybit as ego driven as the pros..and actually much more dishonest. Come on, "student atheletes"? Most of the players are playing to get into the NFL, not get an actual education.
Anyone who thinks the college game ISN'T as money and ego driven as the NFL is fooling themselves.

Except for the ones that play for coaches with their silly Twitter bans. Personally, I think it helps fans connect with the players and even get to know them in a way other than the media telling you who a player is and what he/she is like.

I was taught to despise the Raiders and Cowboys, and I guess I still do enjoy it when they lose. I generally root for underdogs, otherwise, though I admit to prejudice against teams from Texas and Florida, regardless of underdog status. I root against the Cardinals, too, largely because I despise their Teabagger ownership group, and I like to root against the people I know in Arizona, mostly high school and college classmates.

I do root for the Lions and Bears, as a part of the NFC North, and I once rooted for the Vikings in a similar vein, but Randy Moss ended that several years ago.

In truth, I don't watch much football. I prefer baseball, soccer, basketball and hockey. Don't get me wrong. It's a fine sport, but it doesn't get me too excited.
