Time for me to make my vanity post
It is my birthday today--November, 29.

For a present and to qualify this as a sports post, I'd like to see the Cards defeat the Niners later on.

2. I see them as evenly matched
49ers 21st in pass defense, Cardinals 28. I'm not sure who will start at QB for SF but Alex Smith and Derek Anderson are very similar in passing numbers. There isn't enough of a sample size of the backups to make an adequate judgment. I think the combination of Hightower and Wells could offset Gore. The thing is San Francisco's rush D is actually good. I think it will be a close game, a lot will depend on how they use Adrian Wilson(He can't cover elite TEs and SF has Vernon Davis). Preferably in the box. Play-calling (Don't call screen passes on 3rd & long Whisenhut-It never works). And mistakes. Also the 4th quarter will be interesting, the D always is worn out in the 4th.

It isn't like they are facing the team that is #1 in rushing attempts and has a QB that averages over 7 in YPA like the Kansas City Chiefs who they played last week. Seriously if I had a lot of money I would of took the Chiefs easily, also they were at home too. I believe they have a chance in this one unlike others.

Thanks anyways though. :hi:

You remember the last time it was my birthday?

If you forgot, that is a 4th & goal pass from Vince Young to Kenny Britt to defeat the Cardinals on that last second play. It also capped off a 99 yard drive where he completed 3 4th down conversions. I'm hoping for a different result this year. :)

And with the up and down nature of the NFL this year, I'd say you have a good shot at getting that birthday wish...:)

both teams seem pretty down right now. Funny thing about the Cardinals... Anderson is playing better past few weeks but the team around him, especially on D is playing worse than they did first few weeks of the season.

12. BTW, I'm kinda jealous of where you live right now
Recently, the Nats hot new prospect Bryce Harper played in the Arizona fall league just down the road from you in Scottsdale. I would love to have seen him play......You should go if he comes back in the spring...

I know Mesa Solar Sox play at HoHoKam Park which isn't far from me at all. I'll look into their home schedule if he plays in the league next season. I'm very interested in seeing Harper first chance I get.

14. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday
:toast:

Regarding your present, if your Cards defense can stuff the box and keep moderate pressure on Troy Smith they have a chance to win. And don't change to a prevent-style of defense late in the 4th quarter -- I've seen Arizona blow many games this way.

I'd be really surprised if this isn't a close game though. I can't imagine the 49ers not opening up the play book after that awefully unimaginative performance last weekend against Tampa Bay. Players were quoted in The S.F. Chronicle afterward that even their families knew what offensive plays San Francisco would call before they called them. Might as well take some risks and try something new.

Close game is the way I see it, easily go either way. AZ does have a tough time closing out games going back to the Super Bowl. I know this year, they blown games in the 4th (Tampa, Vikings, and to some extent on the road at Seattle) largely due to their defense being tired from all the quick offensive possessions, IOW getting nowhere on offense for large periods of time during games.

I mentioned play-calling up-thread will be an issue and you pointed to it. I can pretty much predict what Arizona is going to do on offense and you can usually tell by the formations (though I do love when either Breaston or Fitz is in motion though it usually indicates a pass is coming). I'll give a perfect example from last season. Beanie Wells was a rookie so the coach didn't trust him in the passing game at all in the first half of the season, well actually until the Giants game when he had a breakout game. So Hightower would be used on passing and rushing plays. However once you saw Wells coming onto the field, I knew they were going to run it and sure enough they did. It wasn't until Wells was used for blocking, receiving, and running that started throwing defenses off. I completely understand why Whiz did it, he was a rookie learning and he didn't get the ball thrown to him often when he was with Ohio State. Anyways my point is, at times, play-calling is very predictable. I like being fooled. :)

Congrats to Oklahoma going to the Big 12 title game. I didn't come back to any of the games after I quit watching Wisconsin-Northwestern into the second quarter. I watched a Netflix movie later on to get it all the way so I could watch NFL all day Sunday.

Mine was earlier in the month. I got the Giants winning the World Series for mine.

Yours is a more modest wish. While I can't join in hoping you'll get it, I'm sure you will.

Glad you got to enjoy a championship win by one of your favorite teams, especially for your birthday. I'm still waiting to know what that feels like.

Happy belated birthday BTW.

Hey--I was looking at the NHL standings last night and noticed no-one in the Pacific Division has a losing record or does Anaheim count? They're 11-11 but they have 3 overtime losses. I hope Phoenix can survive, their 7 game winning streak ended the other night.

31. Well, 11-11 isn't a winning record, but it isn't a losing one either.
:)

Look at it this way, all those teams are .500 or better. Only the Central Division is better in those terms (Nashville is 9-8-5 in last place). The Pacific Division has arguably become the toughest division in the NHL. L.A. is a team to look out for, Phoenix and Dallas have both gotten drastically better in the last couple of years, San Jose has been solid for a long time now, and Anaheim is consistently one of the toughest teams to play whether they win or lose. Phoenix can definitely survive, but it's going to be a tough battle to do so.
