Mark Cuban's interest could be significant step in BCS playoff push...
Yeah, Mark Cuban...

A lot of us want a college football playoff. A lot of us know a playoff would be infinitely superior to the BCS. A lot of us -- including university presidents and athletic directors -- know a playoff would make a lot more money for schools than the BCS does.

But we aren't worth $2.3 billion. We don't have venture capitalists sprinting to throw money at us every time we have an idea.

Mark Cuban does.

Recently, the Dallas Mavericks' owner decided that instead of spending his energy and considerable financial resources to buy a Major League Baseball franchise, he could profit more -- financially and historically -- from creating a playoff system in major college football.

"It just dawned on me that for the amount of money that I would consider spending on a baseball franchise, you could take that money and turn the BCS upside down and start a playoff system," Cuban said Thursday on the Dan Patrick Show.

Good riddance to the BCS as it is now!

2. So let it be written, so let it be done!
I've always hated that there's no playoff in college football, and for me personally it's really spoiled a sport that I would otherwise like as much, if not more, than the pro game.

3. Go MC!
I hope he can help influence the adoption of a playoff system. Is he planning on getting the "broadcast" rights?

6. Since you mentioned it...
I hate the Mavericks. Always was a Spurs fan from the time they were the Dallas Chaparrals.

7. Never happen.
Unless he buys off the BCS, the major conferences and all the presidents. I don't even think Bill Gates pockets are deep enough for that. If he pulls it off, I'll send him a Cuban cigar.

11. Wrong direction
College football needs to look backwards, to the conference tie-in era with open voting and everything decided on January 1. That was easily the peak of the sport.

This year you'd have Oregon vs. Wisconsin and likely Auburn vs. TCU, plus other great games potentially playing a role. I'd prefer that scenario ten fold over a circus like Oregon vs. Auburn, a game I have less than no interest in. Auburn vs. TCU would be tremendous contrast in styles and likewise Oregon vs. Wisconsin. If it's a split vote, so be it. Washington and Miami were each tremendous teams in 1991.

13. I don't like a 12 or 16 team playoff
Think about the teams that are ranked in the top 12 or 16. You think all of them deserve a shot? I like a 4 team playoff, 8 at the most.

14. There is also the issue of how many games makes sense from a health standpoint.
In addition to the reality that these guys are supposed to be going to class. Teams are already playing 13 games in the regular season. In a 16 team playoff, that number jumps to 17 for the teams in the final, or 16 in an 8 team playoff. NFL players are very concerned about the toll a possible increase in regular season games could take on them, so this is not something that should be taken lightly, IMO.
