Stanford tramples Virginia Tech 40-12..wins Orange Bowl..
Andrew Luck throws for 4 TDs..

Another BIG win for the Pac-10

TCU sure is lucky they didn't have to play the Cardinal. Stanford is Wisconsin, only with a better defense and a great QB..

We need some playoffs..

1. Great performance by Stanford...
but the ACC and Big East don't deserve automatic bids. Based on the current BCS rankings and the fact that no Conference can have more than 2 BCS teams, Boise State should have been there instead of VA Tech (who they beat), and Missouri should have been in Uconn's spot. Even so, I think Oklahoma and Stanford still would have won.

5. based on bowl performance LAST YEAR you could say the same thing about the PAC-10

They were pretty horrific. Outside of Oregon and Stanford, is the PAC-10 really that good? I can't think of any more top 25 teams. But hey, clearly they are superior to everyone based on TWO schools....
Conferences have up years and down years. And before the whining starts about the Big East or ACC, it wasn't that long ago that West Virginia, Florida State, Miami, and other schools from those conferences were contending for National titles.
Its a cyclical thing. But hey, if you had ONE bad year, we should just kick you out! (though I think a case can be made for NO automatic qualifiers)
I swear to god, people seem to think if something hasn't happened in the past 2-3 years its acient history.

10. I would sort of agree except for one thing,
over the last 5 years, the Pac 10 (and Big 10, and Big 12) champions usually seem to be good enough to be a BCS team, even if their particular match-up didn't go well. The ACC and Big East champs teams almost always look like they don't even belong in the game. And it was about 7 or 8 years ago that any those teams had a realistic shot at a national title. If it were one down year, I'd agree, but hell, the ACC is 2-11 in BCS games (Both wins are to Big East opponents). At least the Big East has a more respectable record than that. Personally, I wouldn't have an issue with getting rid of all the automatic qualifiers, all it really does is ensure that a team that doesn't belong gets in if they win their conference (UConn for example). In the end, you'd still have 10 spots to fill and no more than two spots for any one conference, so under normal circumstances, a Big East or ACC team would get in anyway. Under unusual circumstances, though, you wouldn't be "stuck" with them.

2. The PAC-10 has some damn good teams this year.
Auburn is basically the only team in the nation that has a shot at Oregon. The Ducks are incredible. And give them credit, Stanford is a hell of a team; most years, that team would be good enough to win most conferences. Although I think that the SEC is a deeper conference, the PAC-10 might very well have the best 1-2 punch nationally.

3. But the PAC-10 doesn't play anybody.
But don't you know the SEC is the only real conference in college football?

But, but, but...

Have six more days of the blather on sports radio about how the PAC-10 is almost as bad as the WAC. And yet they keep winning bowl games.

4. Maybe I'm missing something.
To win Bowl games you have to first qualify for them. I got the PAC-10 at 2-1. 1 to go. 4 teams?

6. USC had 8 wins..
ASU had 6. In a normal year it would have been 6 bowl bound Pac-10 teams. Still, 2 of the top 4 in the BCS rankings come from the Pac-10..not bad, not bad at all.

8. The NCAA took them to the woodshed for the various violations they had.
I think they're banned from next year's bowl season as well.
