Buckeye scandal could get worse as it goes

BY MIKE LOPRESTI
GANNETT NEWS SERVICE

This dirt can't just be brushed off the vest so easily.

The nattily-dressed Jim Tressel comes across like a banker - and you know what's happened to some of our bankers lately. Now the Teflon football coach of The Ohio State University has a growing brouhaha, with no closure in sight. It cannot be glossed over or dismissed, no matter how much the Buckeye faithful would prefer everyone get back to important stuff, such as Tressel's record against Michigan.

He's 9-1, by the way, which buys a guy a lot of breathing room in Columbus. With a stat like that, you'd need to do more than sit on reports of player impropriety to get yourself in the real soup. Homicide might do it.

We're not exactly sure yet what all happened with Tattoogate. If small fibs were told, or outright whoppers, or a coach just decided to look the other way and hope nobody noticed. There is quite possibly more NCAA action in Ohio State's future, but the question everyone wants answered is obvious. ............(more)

1. This coming from a Michigan "fan" and the Michigan media.
Quite a lot of speculation in that artical.

He is right though, that Tressel is 9-1 against the team up north (and also has a National Championship).

3. Huh? I was not talking about Mike Lopestri.
Interesting how the "freep(er).com" is going after Coach Tressel.

4. A Gannett paper that happens to be in Michigan carried a Gannett News Service story.....
...... just as Gannett newspapers all over the country will carry that very same story. ...... And PS, the Detroit Free Press website was freep.com long before anyone had heard of the Free Republic, just for clarity's sake.

5. I know - it's just an aside -
but I HATE how FreeRepublic denigrates the Freep's good name.

6. Yeah, OSU is dirty, dirty, dirty...
more to come if the NCAA actually wants to learn anything.
