NHL, Glendale make interim deal to keep Coyotes in Arizona
The National Hockey League and the city of Glendale, Ariz., are expected to enter into another one-year interim agreement to work together on securing ownership for the Phoenix Coyotes to keep the team in Glendale. The Glendale City Council will vote on the action at its next meeting on Tuesday that will keep the team playing at Jobing.com Arena for the 2011-12 season. Both the NHL and city of Glendale intend to continue working on a sale to the potential ownership group led by Chicago businessman Matt Hulsizer.

"As we have for the past two-plus years, we have been working very closely with the City of Glendale to do everything possible to ensure the Coyotes' future in Glendale," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told NHL.com. "At the City's request, we have agreed to pursue another one-year interim arrangement while we jointly pursue a long-term ownership solution. We remain confident that one exists, and we intend to continue to pursue it."

Now if they could just do something about that awful arena name. :)

1. I saw the news last night
Looks like it gives them more time to work out a permanent deal. Good news even if it means I get 1 year to follow them. :bounce:

2. Good to get this taken care of early so the team can focus on hockey.
They have some things to tweak and fix, and knowing where they'll be playing helps a lot. Bryzgalov said he wasn't staying with the team if they moved to Winnipeg, and there was probably some other players who felt the same. At least the doubts can be removed on some of these guys, and the team can focus on the important stuff. :)

3. I noted the coach
made an issue about this whole thing being a distraction and tough to play & focus with this hanging over their heads. I think Doan may have said the same. Granted, it was around the time they had to play Game 4 or slightly after that so I guess consider the timing of the "distraction" talk. However, there has to be something there when they don't know where they will live next year. Either way, I think the team played well last couple of years. :)
