French Open Tennis Thread...One Spoiler...
Edited on Mon May-23-11 04:39 PM by joeybee12
Tomas Berydych lost today, that was a big upset, although he has tended to bow out early these days.

Predictions? Mine.

I think the women's is wide open. I'd like Caroline to finally win one.

Men's? I gotta go with Djoker, because he doesn't seem to be letting down, and barring any injuries, he will easily beat anyone, even Nadal, like he's done the past four times. I always root for Roger, but he just doesn't have that spark anymore. I think he still COULD beat anyone on the tour, but he won't because he lacks focus.

1. I don't think Rafa likes the new lighter balls.....

Harder to put that severe topsin on them. He was missing shots against Isner that he could normally make in his sleep.

2. Another spoiler...
Anna Ivanovic lost...too bad....I like her and the more women at the top the better for the game...there's way too much inconsistency in most of the women's games.

3. Another spoiler, although it shouldn't be a spoiler since it happened hours ago...
Kim is out...her ankle must be pretty bad...I would have put her as one of the favorites, maybe THE favorite.

4. She said it wasn't a physical problem
But I'm not so sure. I thought I saw her limp after the match.

Hope she's 100% for the grass.

5. That's why I like Kim, she doesn't make excuses and doesn't want to take
away from the other person's win....unlike Nadal.

Didn't see much of the match but she looked slow.

6. Yikes! Spoiler!
Too bad, caroline lost...clay is not her best surface, though, but still...as long as it's not svetlana, I'll root for anyone...she plays really well fora month or two then fizzles out...it should go to soemone who is more consistent.

Djoker might have his hands full with Juan Martin today.

7. I just don't get the Woz
There's no reason for her to be so ineffective on clay. If the women's game weren't so bad right now, there's no way she could be #1. It's so disappointing.

8. She's very consistent...that's her strength, so you'd think her game
would be good on clay...she does better on hard courts, though.

11. I'm rooting for Sharapova
Still a longshot but this is as open as it will ever be for her.

Women's tennis is sickening, very good depth but nothing at the top, particularly with Clijsters nicked. I get into related arguments with Tiger Woods fans all the time on golf forums. They insist that great depth automatically equates to superior players on top of the list, and will never agree to any suggestion that Nicklaus faced tougher foes than Tiger. I always point to current women's tennis as the parallel.

Men's side, I don't see Nadal losing three sets. Djokovic could do it, if he gets past del Potro, but the difference between best of 3 and best of 5 is massive. I always kept that in mind when Jordan was with the Bulls. You might beat them 3 times, not 4.
