Columbus Dispatch: How bad could it get for OSU?
OSU football: How bad could it get for OSU?
Sunday, June 12, 2011 03:14 AM

By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The NCAA investigation of the Ohio State football program seems to be in the leaky-faucet phase.

"A situation with a high-profile case like this, it's going to be like a drip, drip, drip," Michael Buckner said. "There's always going to be something else coming out, and it does seem like that's what is happening now."

Buckner's law firm in Pompano Beach, Fla., specializes in helping schools and individuals deal with the rigors of an NCAA investigation. Like many others in his profession, he has watched with keen interest the developments in the Ohio State case:

• Six players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor, being cited in December for accepting improper benefits from a tattoo-parlor owner. ...............(more)

1. I just saw the report on ESPN's Sunday morning show,
....... Outside the Lines and the answer to the question on just how bad it will get for Ohio State is a simple one.
Very very very bad. Cash, cars, drug dealers, rounds of golf ($100.00+ per round) paid for by a shady sport's
memorabilia guy, and some at Ohio State knowing about the problems for some time will not play well w/ the
NCAA so the penalties will be harsh ..... Bill Livingstone of the Cleveland Plain Dealer said that Ohio State is lucky
that the NCAA doesn't use the death penalty anymore.

Ohio State Football is a monster and they will always be good if not in the top 20 in the nation year in and year out
because of it's history and the quality of players it will always bring in but the next few years are gonna be brutal
for OSU.

2. what i don't understand is the collective punishment mentality of the NCAA
a few jerk-offs in a program get caught, and all the other honest and hard working players, coaches etc have their dreams and accomplishment nullified.

3. The buck's got to stop somewhere, KG.
The coach is the one who recruits those jerk-offs. It's the rogue schools that make the honest schools look bad. And 90% are clean.

4. right. maybe banning a few coaches, boosters, etc (the ones directly involved) for life
instead of sanctions against a whole program.

5. The coaches made the decision to play ineligible players
The wins are tainted. They can't leave the wins for the honest players and strip them from the bad ones. The coaches act on behalf of the University; their actions reflect on the institution. It's too bad but that's the way it goes. If you don't want dishonor brought onto your instituion, don't hire dishonest people. Tressel's reputation was NOT squeaky-clean at Youngstown and I'm sure the OSU administation knew it but hired him anyway because he was a great recuiter and won a lot of games.

6. This is the very definition of lack of institutional control
When you have corruption at all levels ( that Gee fellow is no prize, he ran up $700,000 in CATERING expenses at Vanderbilt) just banning one or two people isn't going to do it. Honestly, if anyone deserves to get what SMU got years ago it's OSU. That's not happening I'm sure but the entire program needs a thorough cleansing at this point
