Tiger Woods: US Open champion Rory McIlroy better than me when I was his age
Mark O'Meara is "Mark". I skipped that part so I could include the part about Rory's swing.

<snip>
"I totally agree with Mark," said Woods, who was 21 when he won his first major. "Rory's swing is definitely better than mine was at the same age.

"He needs to continue to work on it, but he's still only 22. It's fun to see someone of that age playing the way he did and handling it the way he did after (losing at) Augusta.

"That was some seriously good playing. To do that at the US Open, to be that aggressive the entire time, it was cool to watch."

<snip>

"In 1997 when I was, what, 21, granted I had some success, but I didn't like my golf swing. That's why I changed it," the 14-time major winner said when asked to compare himself to McIlroy. "I felt like at the same age, his swing is definitely better than mine was at the same age.

1. Better? Better player? Better person?
Probably both.

2. Tiger had a lashing golf swing at that age
Like an unleashed cobra, and fitting because he used a Cobra driver.

Rory's swing is unquestionably better than Tiger's from 1997, but Tiger had a superior natural short game and he improved his swing immensely under Butch Harmon in the late '90s.

3. Perfectly Stated
Tiger should have stayed with the Harmon swing. I think the more recent changes are what put pressure on his lower legs. That has exacerbated the knee problems, i think.

It was actually the opposite. Tiger left the Harmon swing because he felt his knee wouldn't be able to take it. Rory does have e more beautiful swing than Tiger but the question is does he have the killer instinct. We only see that kind of drive rarely. We all love Michael Jordan and Tiger because they have it. We all diss lebron because he doesn't seem to have it.

Tiger almost seems to have a hate for all the "country club" types deep down. He was going to win to soothe the hurts of Charlie Sifford. This is just speculation but he was winning in such a passionate way that it was infectious. Golf needs that type of passion or it's just rich people playing.

5. Not Really, Wilt
That's what Tiger says, but i don't agree with him. You can tell that the new swing is no easier on the knee then the Harmon swing. And, the original swing was much more aggressive with the hip move at the start of the downswing. The harder and faster the hips start, (and the farther ahead of the upper body), the more aggressively the left knee must straighten and pull back away from the target line.

The Harmon swing actually had him holding the flex in his left knee longer in the through swing. The mechanics aren't at all difficult to deduce because the lower body moves slower than the arms and upper body. Because of that it's WAY easier to see.

So, i don't agree that the Harmon swing was too hard on his knee. That conclusion fails the eye test.

6. As To Your Other Point
We agree completely. Especially, since i have the same distaste for the "never worked a day in their life" silverspooners that have popluated the tour for many, many years. And, then they turn out to be Randian buffoons as if they are SOLELY responsible for their success.

I hope Tiger gets the fire back, because i do enjoy him putting the glow in the dark white guy types in their place.

The other guy who got it was Trevino who forever dissed the Masters which is my least favorite major for obvious reasons. How about the Golf Channel having limbaugh on?

I wrote a letter to the Golf Channel about that. I will eventually put it on DU. I did not get a single response. I recently sent it to Arnie, Finchem and Tiger. Hopefully they will write me back.
