Tiger Woods' Doctor Pleads Guilty...or alternately...A-Hole's Doctor Pleads Guilty

BUFFALO — A Canadian doctor pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony charge of bringing misbranded and unapproved drugs into the United States to treat high-profile athletes recovering from injuries, sometimes with substances banned by their sport and seen as potentially performance enhancing.

The doctor, Anthony Galea, who was the subject of a five-count indictment handed up last October by a federal grand jury here, admitted as part of his plea that he traveled to the United States numerous times from 2007 through September 2009 to provide medical treatment to athletes, including players in Major League Baseball, the N.F.L. and professional golf. None of the athletes were formally named in court papers.

The drugs at the center of the plea agreement included human growth hormone, which the plea agreement said was not approved in the United States for the uses that were intended by Galea, and Actovegin, a derivative of calf’s blood not sanctioned for use in this country.

Galea, 51, who had become known in recent years for novel blood treatments aimed at speeding recovery from injuries, faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He also was required to forfeit $275,000. But prosecutors said the range of his sentence would probably be 18 to 24 months in prison, a fine of $4,000 to $40,000 and one year of supervised release.

Not sure if you can call him Woods' doctor but he has treated a lot of athletes. Javon Walker, Santana Moss, even Rockies' closer Huston Street.

I'm sure there's more to the story than we know right now...

because athletes weren't name in court filings though it is presumed to be NFL & MLB players. It has strongly been suggested Santana Moss is one of them. Probably only thing we will ever know is Galea smuggled HGH into the US.
