Ohio State vacates all 2010 victories
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State says it's vacating its wins from the 2010 football season, including the Buckeyes' victory over Arkansas in the 2011 Sugar Bowl.

Responding to NCAA allegations over a memorabilia-for-cash scandal that cost former coach Jim Tressel his job, Ohio State says Friday it also is waiving a $250,000 fine it had imposed on Tressel and changing his resignation to a retirement. Through the school, the ex-Buckeyes coach says that he is taking responsibility for the NCAA inquiry, which developed after it was learned Tressel failed to report players receiving improper benefits.

This is the right thing to do but if they think this is going to stop the NCAA from imposing a stiff penalty on them, thats probably not going to happen. But I'm glad they at least are TRYING to clean up their mess.

1. Still ticks me off...no fan of the SEC, but maybe Arkansas could
have gone to a different bowl and won, or had the NCAA done the right thing and started the suspension of the Pror 5 then, Arkansaa could have celebrated a bowl victory..can't ever get that back.

2. Letting Tressel retire?
NCAA might not like that.

3. Saint Tressel has put Ohio State in a world of hurt
But I do think both the A.D. and the President were aware of the problems and Jim is falling on his sword for them
hence Jim's retirement which means he will keep getting paid big $s for years.

The NCAA will no doubt take away scholarships and impose a bowl ban on the team.

4. Frankly I think the President of OSU needs to go more so than the AD
Gordon Gee? Whatever his name is, its pretty clear he knew that Tressel had an out of control program and just didn't care as long as they won. Did you know in one year at Vanderbuilt he spent like $700,000 on catering?

5. Did you know at Brown, they commemorate him (Gee) with porta-potties?

7. HAHAHAHAHA
Seems like Gordon Gee, Jim Tressel and Terrell Pryor are all kindred spirits in that they completely lack ethics and winning is everything. No wonder its been so bad there.

8. I absolutely don't know why that story isn't bigger
It's so damned funny, and it makes me really likes the students at Brown.

9. During Tressel, President Gee, and A.D. Gene Smith's .....
.... press conference last March Jim started to say that he had forwarded the emails about
Pryor and the other players onto others @ OSU and Gene Smith cut him off cold and after
that Tressel has always said he was the only one who knew ..... I think Tress' "retirement"
is a way to buy his silence.

I know that after Gee left OSU for Brown University they got tired of his act PDQ and he was
gone in under 2 years of being there. As an OSU fan living in Columbus w/ family who
taught @ OSU and I have taken a few classes there this stuff really hurts.

10. Well if it makes you feel any better....

all the Michigan fans I know want OSU back to the way they were - pre-Tressel - because they all value the rivalry deeply. I know I wasn't the only one who just never felt right about Tressel, and it wasn't just the wins and losses, even though it's hard to make people believe that. There was something about him that I never liked. When someone looks that clean cut, IMO, they're hiding something.

15. Yes and apparently they cheated to do it
I thought no one could be more pathetic and worthy of my contempt than Rich Rod in the Big 10but I find Tressell to be so

17. It's NOT about the wins and losses.
It's about Tressel. He's creepy.

18. Anyone who would post with pride about a cheater's record...
just isn't going to get it.

It's not about records at all. Bo and Woody dueling basically to a standstill over a decade was far, far better for fans at both schools than either Mr. Sweater Vest's run against Michigan or the preceding era when Cooper lost routinely.

6. I think at some point they might vacate (or forfeit) any game Pryor played in
I don't know everything he did, but it wouldn't surprise me if he turned out to have been ineligible.

I cannot believe they are letting Tressel call this a retirement. As a man of God, Tressel himself ought to object.

11. Too big to fail??
Vacating the wins does nothing. It will be interesting what kind of sanctions the NCAA lays on the Bucks. TOSU is a bigger brand than USC. I'd go further and say bigger than ND. The NCAA should nail them. A lot of $$ at stake. That's what drives the machine. The funny thing. OSU has the potential to bounce back from ANY penalties in record time. A very intriguing future, here.

13. Now all my Spartan siblings are asking whether
MSU and Wisconsin are the conference co-champions

That's the trouble with "vacating wins" - it NEVER makes up for what happened, because the cheaters deny everyone else their rightful moments of celebration.
