Dodgers fire Steve Garvey
It must be a sign of the apocalypse. Or is this just another nail in the coffin of this proud franchise? Steve Garvey, a Dodger institution for the last four decades (albeit with a brief stop in San Diego), gets canned for wanting to buy the club? WTF??

AP: Dodgers fire Steve Garvey

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have fired Steve Garvey for his attempts to buy the team that he helped to the 1981 World Series title, according to a person familiar with the situation.

By Katy Winn, AP
The person, who wasn't authorized to speak publicly on personnel matters and talked to the Associated Press on Friday night on condition of anonymity, said Garvey is no longer with the team, ending a 30-year tenure in the organization. Garvey worked in marketing and community relations, making numerous public appearances on behalf of the team and its sponsors.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the firing on Friday.

The AP left a message for Garvey seeking comment.

Garvey has publicly discussed his formation of a group that has the goal of buying a professional sports franchise, possibly the Dodgers. He said last month former Dodgers pitcher Orel Hershiser had joined forces with him under the banner of the Garvey-Hershiser Group.

Maybe they can hire him for security out in the parking lot...?

3. Honestly, hating the Dodgers isn't as much fun anymore..
not with the Dodger organization in such disarray. My first impulse is to feel sorry for them...then I remember they're still the Dodgers so that thought is quickly erased. Still, for the Giants/Dodgers rivalry to keep it's vibrancy, the Dodgers need to get a new owner and become relevant again..

Michaels and Costas on the MLBN telecast were talking about how much things have changed since Michaels used to do Giants games in the 70's. Back then, while the Giants struggled both on and off the field and played before an often mostly empty Candlestick Park, it was the Dodgers who were the talk of baseball, what with the WS titles and playing in the relatively new stadium before sellout crowds. Now it's all reversed.

2. So did Cyndey Garvey
and for Marvin Hamlisch. I also liked that Don Sutton had a fight with him.
