Rockies looking to trade Jimenez. Possibly to the Yankees.
The Rockies have been in contact with the Yankees and a few other teams regarding right-handed ace Ubaldo Jimenez, but sources indicate that Rockies ownership still hasn't decided whether to trade the talented starter.

The Yankees are said to match up well as a potential trade partner with the Rockies, who like top hitting prospect Jesus Montero. The Yankees have several good pitching prospects as well, but are reluctant to include the very best of them -- Manuel Banuelos, Dellin Betances, Ivan Nova -- along with Montero.

The Rockies are believed to have spoken to the Red Sox, Tigers, Reds and a few other teams about Jimenez, too.

The Yankees covet Jimenez, who is by far the best pitcher being mentioned in trades at this point. He's on a very team-friendly contract: $2.8 million this year $4.2 million in 2012, with team options of $5.75 million in 2013 and $8 million in 2014 (which he can void if traded).

1. I think Rockies need more pitching, not less
Depending on what a team can get, anyone is tradeable but I have a bad feeling about trading Jiminez.

2. "very team friendly"?? Does that mean the Pirates might be interested?

4. Agree
With a contract like that the Rockies would be nuts to trade him. And it really doesn't make it sense to me unless Colorado could get an impact player or two that would help them immediately, like starting pitcher. Jimenez had had some decent starts lately and seems to be coming around.

8. I think the Rockies need to figure out how to get Helton and Giambi...
in the starting lineup at the same time. Both are really hot when they start at first base.

If only there was a DH....

3. Dan O'Dowd (formerly known as Deallin' Dan) the GM said...
"It would have to be a Herschel Walker deal." Remember that in 1989? The largest trade in NFL history.

7. I didn't say it. O'Dowd did.
And you should be verrrry sorry for not boosting the Rockies. The Pirates would still be in first (by percentage points) if the Rox had won one more against the Brewers.

9. I find it difficult, no IMPOSSIBLE to believe that the Yankees
would pass up the opportunity to get Jimenez for 2 1/2 years at low money because Ivan Nova is "untouchable".

The thing is, because Jimenez's money is low, smaller market teams with better prospects will be in the hunt for him too, and if Colorado does make the trade, it will be for the best prospects.

10. Now the Red Sox (wink, wink) are considering Jimenez
Make the Yankees give up a ton for him.
