Why do the call it a PENALTY shootout?
Who was being penalized?

And why do they... oh nevermind.

1. Not sure, watched w/o sound, but
mebbe teams accumulated 'penalties' during game, so paid for them at end.

4. The spot where all penalty shots are taken
12 yards out from the goal is a larhe white circle called the penalty spot
If a penalty shot is given it is taken from that location
In a shootout the shot is taken from that same spot, hence penalty shootout (better term might be Penalty Spot Shootout)

5. Kind of like in football, kicking extra points until one team misses, or
the basketball, shooting free throws until someone misses.
