Jim Tressel made $21.7 million at Ohio State
From the Associated Press, 8-9-2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Jim Tressel made $21.7 million as Ohio State football coach over his decade-long tenure before being ousted for breaking NCAA rules, records from the publicly funded school show.

Tressel earned more than $3.5 million in 2010, the year he covered up an improper benefits scandal that has led to Ohio State being forced to appear before the NCAA's committee on infractions this Friday.

By comparison to Tressel's $3.5 million salary last year, Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee earned a raise in his base salary to $818,167 and received a $300,000 bonus.

1. Come on Auggie. You can do better than that!
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 06:46 PM by madinmaryland
A look at many of the other top college coaches make Tressel look like a piker in the pay department. I think Charlie Weis made more than Tressel did!

Un-recced!

2. This isn't a hit piece on Tressel...

Weis is getting paid by Notre Dame and Florida: $2.6 million contract with the Florida Gators as an offensive coordinator. Weis will continue drawing checks from Notre Dame through 2015 -- he signed a 10-year contract with Notre Dame in 2005 and was believed to be earning nearly $3 million, based on media reports.''

3. Actually, that artical is a hit piece on Tressel. Sorry, but it is. I'm surprised
the rest of the Ohio State Haters haven't piled in already.

Nowhere in the artical you attached were the other links pointed out. Actually you could say the same thing about basketball coaches, also.

5. My take away is that the college coach earns
three times as much as the University president. Ohio State is the example, though any number of universities could likely apply. And that is really sad.

It wasn't my intention to single out Tressel and the Ohio State program--the article seemed newsworthy due to his recent resignation.

12. You missed the whole point, tru. College sports coaches wherever they are
get far more pay than the university/college presidents. It is everywhere.

And yes, it is a hit piece on Tressel. Sweatered or not.

The one who deserves to be #2. But nobody deserves that kind of money for coaching college.
