I'm devastated...my kitty Melanie will be leaving me soon...
She has kidney failure, trying liquids (under the skin, can't think of the name sub-something) to make her comfortable, but she's gone down hill fast. The vet today thinks it's time and I can't make that decision yet...have to see how she responds this weekend. She is my favorite cat, demanding, but always wants to be near me and very affectionate. She'll be 16 Sunday.

2. Best wishes, joey.
We lost our 21 year old a couple weeks back. As a foster house, we've lost so many over the years. But it still breaks our heart every time. Their members of the family.

7. Oh Joey...
She's beautiful. It's heartbreaking every time. Devastating. The subcutaneous fluids can make them very comfortable and help do the work cleansing the blood that the kidneys can no longer do. We've done it for some of ours. My heart is with you.

8. So very sorry. Been there, done that.
Will hug my kitties tighter tonight for Melanie.

She was a lucky kitty to have you.

9. Very sorry to hear, joey.
My family and I lost our 2 oldest cats 2 summers ago less than a week apart. One we decided to put down, the other caught us by surprise. Obviously it's tough no matter what, but if the prognosis isn't good it's probably best to enjoy her while you can, say your goodbyes, and let her go. Watching a pet you love get progressively worse is definitely not fun.

Best wishes whatever you do.

10. Terrible to lose such a good friend and companion.
Have been through it too many times, and it never gets any less painful. Thoughts are with you.

11. Thanks everyone...the fluids seemed to help...she had a better appetite
last night, although she really is only eating fluids, meaning the liquid from wet food, and very specific wet food. She got in bed with me so it seems she's not ready to leave yet, although she is painfully skinny...it's awful to pet her because it's only bone. Her sister is avoiding her, which is ahrdly Christian of her!

As you know, i lost my doggie. But, we've gotten a new puppy and we're feeling much better about things.

Hang in there. It's hard and believe me, i know it.

16. Aww, darlin', I'm so sorry.
I know how hard these things are. I put down my beloved bulldog last year because of doggie dementia, and in 2006, my childhood buddy had to go because of a fucking spider bite. Those were literally two of the worst days of my life.
