2. Huskers started out at #7 or 8 last year pre-season
finished if I recall barely in top 20

But they got their act much more together this year -- but in a whole new Big 10 scenario.

Whatever happens, it should be a good story...I think they could go all the way and win a Big 10 championship their first season. But I am an infernal optimist...

I'm stoked for the season, even if I have to fight with guys for a tv now that I'm in Big 10 country.

7. The Onion's take:
2011 College Football Preseason Poll

With college football season almost upon us, it's time to take a look at where the top teams rank in the preseason polls.

1. Oklahoma: Not a bad team, but pretty obviously here because the coaches and reporters lack imagination
2. Alabama: Somebody called them up and asked if they're still a really good team, and they said yes
3. Oregon: LaMichael James a leading candidate to take Heisman Trophy, be forced to return it in five years
4. Florida State: The Seminoles have proven themselves worthy of a top-10 ranking by—wait, nobody has proven anything. The season hasn't even started. How does any of this matter in any way imaginable?
5. Boise State: Cue complaining in 3…2…1…
6. Florida: Several former backups who are stepping into starting roles have plenty of losing experience from last year to draw from and try to do the opposite of
7. Auburn: The Tigers have lost far too much talent this year to qualify for a bowl title they will later be stripped of
8. Arkansas: Just because star running back Knile Davis is out for the season doesn’t mean the Hogs can’t be ranked in the top five; it has more to do with the fact that they just aren’t as good as those other teams.
9. Wisconsin: Pound for pound, this team weighs the most pounds of any in NCAA football
10. Michigan: Actually not even in anyone's top 25, and also, fuck them.

10. Ok, where are Minnesota and Indiana?
Shouldn't they get at least one vote?

11. Just for you, Joey...
18. Notre Dame. Earlier this month, I wrote the following in a college preview for Maxim magazine about Notre Dame: "We're told the school will mix things up this year by not putting their videographer in death's way. Good on ya, Notre Dame." That prompted the following piece of hate mail from an ND student:

You're (sic) Maxim article was 1) dumb in general, not sure why Maxim published it, but 2) (more importantly) incredibly insensitive. You may look at your Notre Dame jab as nothing more than a slight at the football team, but the way you went about it was just wrong...

"We're told the school will mix things up this year by not putting their videographer in death's way. Good on ya, Notre Dame." What the fuck is that comment? I went to high school with the young man who passed away in that accident and was furious to read that line.

You may not have meant anything by it, but when I read it, I saw "ND football will suck again, but hey, at least they wont (sic) kill their videographer." Again, you might not have meant that...

No, no. That's exactly what I meant. In fact, the way you phrased it is wayyyyyyy better. The only thing I'd change is the incorrect punctuation. Otherwise? STERLING. Now go out there and eat a bag of shit like Notre Dame always eats a bag of shit. And try not use any of your classmates as lightning magnets.

13. The following statment is hilarious. I watch Gameday just to see the signs.
"Without hate, without the drunken bile that causes otherwise normal students to wake up at 8AM and do 21 shots of SoCo and then hold up a sign behind the GameDay set that says LEE CORSO HAS RECTAL CANCER"

I remember "Mike Hart Can't Fingerpaint".
