What other manager throws a rookie on the bump in his second professional MLB start in Game One of the playoffs? Maybe he's playing hunches, maybe he figured he'd take a chance, cast fate to the wind. Who gives a shit. The rookie threw a gem, with a lot of nasty stuff that had the Rangers on their heels into the early evening. And the RAYS bats gave him a lead where he could go out each inning with confidence, that this game was his to win. And he rolled for seven innings. He pitched a gem.
NOW, Madden has set his rotation up to win.
Calculated risk? Like Dan Johnson pinch hitting on Wednesday night, right before he cranked one out with one strike left in the season? Who cares?
They Rays are playing with house money, just like another team that won it all last year by squeaking in on the final day of the season. This shit has happened before.
GO RAYS!
