Justin Verlander wins AL Cy Young
NEW YORK -- Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander has won the AL Cy Young Award by a unanimous vote.

Verlander got all 28 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America in results announced Tuesday.

“If you had told me at the beginning of the year that I had the chance to win the MVP and be a unanimous Cy Young winner, it would have blown my mind.

"It's really exciting," Verlander said on ESPN's "SportsCenter."

"To hear my name called for the American League Cy Young. It's such an honor. I'm truly blessed," he said.

Congrats to him!

3. Congrats to Verlander, well deserved.
Though to be honest, I'm a little surprised there wasn't some a-hole out there who voted for someone else. There always seems to be one.

5. I think, because it's not easy to dislike Verlander, the a-holes decided
to do the right thing. :)

7. A regular season award...
too bad for Detroit's sake, Verlander didn't pitch better in the postseason..

8. Right on cue
We can always count on you, Upton, to try to disparage anything Detroit-related. Verlander won a crucial game in the series with the Rangers and the Tigers won the series he lost in, against the Yankees.

12. You're missing the point.
Edited on Tue Nov-15-11 07:08 PM by Upton
The Cy Young is a regular season only award after all.. I never said Verlander shouldn't have won the CY Young. He was the best pitcher in the AL during the year...However, he failed to meet the lofty expectations he set during that time in the postseason..

13. Yes...Upton also thinks that the 49ers are something special this year.
I don't pay much attention to what Upton thinks when it comes to sports.

16. 49ers are doing pretty well
But they are coached by a Michigan man, does Upton know that?

20. I think they are overrated, and unfortunately they are in a division
where they play Arizona twice, and Seattle twice. That's kind of 4 gimme's. While they are good, they are not great... and some of my worst Michigan football memories are Harbaugh induced. :hi:

It's all about the Pack this year. Unless your name is Skip Bayless and/or Upton.

23. Blah, blah, blah..
The 49ers have only played one game within the division..they currently stand 7-1 outside the NFC West. Am I surprised at their record?..Sure. Are they overrated?..Possibly. Are they as good as the Packers..Not yet.

You can't deny what Harbaugh has done with this team though...and if it annoys Packers fans such as yourself, so much the better.

25. I don't know..
I was wondering the same thing the other day when you were going on about how much you hate the 49ers. Personally, I don't really hate the Packers, least not at the same level as say the Cowboys. Though I have to admit I do feel a sort of perverse pleasure in watching you reveal your insecurities..

26. Really? Yay!
:bounce:

The only thing I "hate" about the 49er's is the miffed call before the bogus win in the 98 NFC West playoffs. That team used to drive us nuts in the early 90's and it was awesome to finally beat them. Other than that, I don't think about them much...except for Harbaugh being an ass at the Lions game (my son is a sickeningly huge Lions fan). Other than that, the mid-90's made for an awesome rivalry.

I also like to call out silliness, which is evidenced in your comments about Verlander. :hi:

Upton did have the pot smoking guy who won the Cy Young a couple of times without the team going anywhere.

10. Next Monday, it's the MVP. He's going to win that, too.
Proud to have posted early in the season predicting a big year by Verlander.

Even bigger than expected. He went 16-3 after Tigers' losses. Unbelievable. That's MVP stuff for sure, my friends.

Unless one single-handedly wins all the games in the ALDS, ALCS, *and* the World Series, one is not deserving of any award. Especially if he plays for Detroit. Don't you pay attention? :hi:

Some good performances this year, but i thought there was NO DOUBT that he was the best in either league.
