Reid: T.O. will not play for Eagles this season

PHILADELPHIA -- Terrell Owens won't return to the Philadelphia Eagles this season, coach Andy Reid said Monday.

The outspoken star receiver was suspended for Sunday night's 17-10 loss at Washington, and will remain suspended for three more games. After that, the Eagles plan to deactivate Owens for the rest of the season.

"The league has been notified by the players' union that they will be grieving our right to take that action," Reid said, "therefore there is nothing more that I can say at this point."

Owens was suspended over the weekend following a tumultuous week in which he criticized the club, fought with a former teammate and took another verbal shot at quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"I do want it to be clear that this decision is a result of a large number of situations that accumulated over a long period of time," Reid said.

Owens "had been warned repeatedly about the consequences of his actions," Reid said. "We gave Terrell every opportunity to avoid this outcome."

2. Very predictable
The Keyshawn situation was the closest parallel and Owens was far more over the top than Keyshawn.

Can't underestimate the impact on the field. Yards per attempt is the most vital and telling stat for a QB. McNabb was always subpar in that category prior to TO. He was a 6.5 or 6.6 type and that's historically doomed to failure in the postseason. As soon as he got a premier receiver, that number soared to more than 8 last season and this year he has been above 7 despite the injuries and no running game and controversies with TO. I would expect the number to drop further now that TO's out.

12. The Keyshawn
Situation is the most similar, but there are some key differences between the two. TO's problems were with Donovan, and his lack of a contract that he liked, and his ability to never shut up. Keyshawn's problems were with his coach and pretty much nothing else, once he got a coach that knew how to handle him, he's been okay. He's had his flare-ups but nothing too serious.

3. Why are folks who catch the ball crazy?
T.O., Keyshawn, Shockey, Moss, etc.

You'd think defensive backs would be the crazy ones.

8. Wasn't that former Nebraska Cornhusker Irving Fryar? WR, of course!
You can take the Husker out of Nebraska, but you can't..... aww, hell, you know the rest.

New avatar, Mookie?

Yes, the Caps need - and deserve - a bit of love from Mookie.

Ovechkin is amazing.

6. Terry amd Keyshawn have settled down some
in Dallas. KJ had a little flare up lately, but it was handled in house. They are both having excellent seasons.

7. I don't feel sorry for him, but I do think he has grounds for a grievance.

If the Eagles want to suspend him for a couple of games, fine. If they want to fire him outright, fine. But why do BOTH? I don't think it makes the team or the NFL look good.

9. If they put him on waivers they get nothing for him AND...
they end up paying his salary. Philly will trade him before $5Milllion in bonuses kick in(March?). They can't trade him until after the Super Bowl so expect February to be nothing but T.O. and Olmpic figure skating.

Someone above cited the Keyshawn/Tampa Bay brouhaha(and now I need to listen to Firesign Theater). I believe it set a precedent which will be followed in this scenario. T.O. won't play but will get pay.

11. Philly will cut him at the end of the season.
No one will take TO's contract in a trade deal. TO will only get payed for this season and he can't re-sign with another team this year. In the end TO will lose out because no one will sign him to a long term contract or pay him top dollar because he's a locker room cancer.

14. Someone will sign TO but he's not going to get big ...
signing bonus or a long term contract. I doubt Joe Gibbs would want TO on his team.
