Roy Keane in shock exit from Man Utd
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/4449396.stm

Roy Keane has left Manchester United by mutual consent.

The Old Trafford club confirmed in a statement on Friday that Keane, 34, had left with immediate effect after 12-and-a-half years with United.

Keane gave an interview to MUTV last month, after a 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough which he did not play in, where he was critical of the side. That interview was never shown and it appears the fall-out has contributed to one of United's most dramatic exits.

2. Uh... wow.
:wow:

I'm shocked - what next for Keane, and does this mean Alan Smith is going to stay in Keane's role for the rest of the season, or will Man U go out and try to fill that spot come January?

3. Michael Ballack is the favourite to fill that role for Man U
And as for Keane, he is expected to go to Celtic, but there are questions about whether or not Celtic can afford Keane's ridiculous wages.

5. Didn't Ballack just sign an extention at Bayern?

I remember hearing over the past couple of days or so that he either signed or was expected to sign.

EDIT - well, maybe not: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=349147&campaign=rss&source=soccernet&cc=5901

This makes things interesting.

6. And here's a few British clubs after Keane

The question is, can they afford to pay his wages?

A host of British clubs are interested in signing Roy Keane after his shock departure from Manchester United.

Celtic are the favourites to sign the 34-year-old, but Portsmouth, Wigan and Bolton are also interested.

But Spurs coach Martin Jol has ruled out a move while Everton boss David Moyes declined to comment on Keane after Saturday's defeat to West Brom.

And Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has not ruled out trying to persuade Keane to cross the city.

7. Well......he's gone to Celtic
As if Old Firm matches need any extra bite!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/4526940.stm

Roy Keane has ended weeks of speculation and completed his move to Celtic by signing an 18-month deal. The 34-year-old Irishman, who ended his Manchester United career in November, had interested several Premiership clubs and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

His move to Scotland comes after nearly 13 years under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and a well-documented falling-out with the club.

Keane was reported to have been critical of a number of his United team-mates in a MUTV programme that was pulled from the schedules because of its content.

"This is not a financial move for me and I'm not coming here for an ego trip or to unwind," said Keane, whose deal is believed to be worth £40,000 a week, about half what he was on at Old Trafford.
