Fan: "I dusted mom's ashes on field" (Philadelphia Eagles)
'She never cared for any other team except the Eagles'

Tuesday, November 29, 2005; Posted: 1:27 p.m. EST (18:27 GMT)

Christopher Noteboom says he sprinkled the ashes of his dead mother at Sunday's Eagles game.

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A man arrested for running onto the field during the Philadelphia Eagles' game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday told police he was spreading his late mother's ashes.

Christopher Noteboom, 44, of Tempe, Arizona, ran onto the field holding a plastic bag, leaving a cloud of fine powder behind. As he reached the 30-yard line, he dropped to his knees, made the sign of the cross and laid down on his stomach. Security personnel reached him moments later and he offered no resistance as he was escorted from the field.

Noteboom, a native of Doylestown, said his mother died of emphysema in January 2005, shortly before the Eagles' Super Bowl appearance.

"She never cared for any other team except the Eagles," Noteboom told WPVI-TV after he was released from custody Monday.

1. Yes, I was at that game and all we saw was a powdery substance...
And it was strange how he just came to a stop and laid down to be arrested.

I think it's very sweet. My grandmother, who recently died of emphysema, was also a lifelong Eagles fan. She died November 24, 2004 and it was obviously before we knew they'd be in the Super Bowl. I think this poor guy should get a break for doing this.

2. I think it's cool that he would do something like that.
Let him off. People have gotten away with much worse.

I'm sure this is just the type of exposure Lincoln Financial was thinking of when they bought naming rights to the stadium:

"She never cared for any other team except the Eagles," Noteboom told WPVI-TV after he was released from custody Monday. "I know that the last handful of ashes I had are laying on the field, and will never be taken away. She'll always be part of Lincoln Financial Field and of the Eagles."
