Penn State vs FSU; West Virginia vs Georgia; Notre Dame vs. OSU;
Oregon gets screwed.

Those are my predictions, and I'm sticking to them.

1. Oregon didn't play anyone
They had a Div I-AA school on their schedule. Play some real teams and you won't get "screwed," and don't tell me that Notre Dame didn't play anyone because everyone at the start of the year said they would be lucky to win 4 games. It is not their fault some teams are down this year. When they were scheduled they were the top of the country.

2. Yeah, a team that has Navy on the schedule can talk shit
Edited on Sun Dec-04-05 03:29 PM by Twillig
sheesh.

And 'you' lost to Michigan freakin' State.

At Home.

It's ok. ND will go ahead and lose yet another bowl game to a team named OSU, even if you do have the drooling crewcut as a coach.

ps And I hate the Ducks.

9. The Michigan St game demonstrates how lame schedule comparison is
Strength of schedule is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American sporting public. I'm amazed that isn't more widely understood. I work in a sports stats office and consult linemakers and sportsbooks. The topic of strength of schedule NEVER comes up. If it did, everyone in the room would look at the new guy and know his days were numbered. It's incredible the BCS formula has been so flawed to put such emphasis on strength of schedule. In professional sports with incredible parity in talent level, strength of schedule is even a more laughable concept.

You dismiss Michigan St. Ha! At the time that game was played, Michigan St was a formidable opponent with a terrific offense. They fell apart late in the season, especially after the letdown against Ohio St after the blocked FG for a TD. Similarly, look at games like my Dolphins defeating Denver 34-10 in the opener. Do you think Miami wants to pay that game again? That result was determined by factors like Denver adjusting to new personnel on defense plus the heat and humidity of south Florida in September.

Strength of schedule is absolutely worthless if you evaluate it long after the fact and not in terms of what the dynamics were at gametime.

3. Yawn.
The best game ND had was the loss to USC.

If ND is going to cash in on its history, they should at least go back to wearing leather helmets.

Have fun getting blown out in the post season...again.

4. well
out of those teams, only fsu might have gotten in ahead of you. maybe WVU, MAYBE, but that's just the way conferences work. if you play in less-than-great conferences, you can't expect to get placed ahead of those who play in better conferences. It sucks, and it's why the bcs should be taken out and shot, but it's the way things work

7. You crybabies! ND desrves to be in a BCS bowl...
...BTW, the only real comparison you can make between OSU and ND is they both played Michigan AT Michigan, and both won, close games.

Can't wait to her what you people gotta say on January 3rd!

14. The BCS actually worked (for once)
Had the old bowl setup been in play, you'd have USC playing Penn State in the Rose Bowl and Texas playing (probably) Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. If both teams won (or lost) you'd have nothing decided.

Yeah, Oregon got screwed again, but the system is based on $ not merit. Oregon can't deliver 30-50,000 fans and a big number on the TV, so they go to San Diego to play Oklahoma a week early.

Oh, and Boston College, welcome to the ACC. Your reward is a trip to Boise at the end of September. And you thought Chestnut Hill was cold...

And for the best bowl setup, the BYU trip to Sin City is compelling, as is the Utah trip to San Francisco. The men from the Beehive state may never be the same after this...

15. Notre Dame is a HUGE TV draw, plus their fans are everywhere.
Therefore, they'll get a BCS bid if it's even remotely possible. I think they can get a big bowl bid if they go .500!

16. ANYONE is eligble for a bowl bid if they're over 500--all 6-5 teams
are considered. You have to go 9-2 (at least) to be considered for a BCS Bowl bid unless you happen to luck out, like FSU and your confernec puts you in a worthless title game that you actually win!
