The Mannings Are Cursed
There's just no other way to explain what happened to the Colts. No way.

4. Thank you!
Peyton pretty much blamed the loss on the "protection". You know what that means? If the O-Line holds a grudge, he can expect to be sacked quite often next year!

5. Peyton Manning
is not a mobile quarterback. When he is under pressure, he is useless.

As long as he has time to scan the field for an open receiver, he will pick a defense apart. But if he is blitzed and forced out of the pocket, he does not throw well on the run and is less accurate.

The jury is still out on Eli; and he is more mobile than Peyton.

13. Problem is, being a football coach, if your line gives the QB
less than a second's protection, it's hard for the QB to do anything, throws him off his rhythm and makes him useless.

That said, saying that shit to the media is fucked up. Peyton. . .you lost! No. . .you didn't lose. Vanderjagt misses by a light year!!!

7. I'm inclined to agree
he's had great regular seasons, but he hasn't performed in big games in the pros or in college. He's got studs to throw to and a stud to hand off to. A single-season record for TDs thrown is impressive, but not as impressive as either Jake Plummer or Big Ben and Hasselback or Delhomme leading their team to the Super Bowl next week ...

14. yeah, a little bit
maybe not at the end of his career, but I was always confused about how, when great QBs were discussed prior to 1997, any mention of John Elway would be met with: "how can you say that, he's never won the super bowl," but Dan Marino always seemed to get a pass on that. I heard a lot of discussion in the mid 90s about how Marino was the best of all time. After Elway won his super bowl, that died down a bit.

Was Marino overrated, really? He was awesome. Definitely a great QB, and I don't think he ever had nearly the supporting staff that Peyton has had.

15. A very good Manning Piece
Peyton Shows His Naked Butt And Rectum.

We've long believed that Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is a big, bolted-neck phony. He says and does all the right things, for the most part, when the cameras are on and folks are watching. But it's our opinion that, in his heart, he's a spoiled brat who thinks he's better than everyone else.

<...> The first one came late in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Steelers. Facing fourth and two from their own 36 and trailing 21-3, head coach Tony Dungy sent in the punt team. And Manning sent them back.

It was one of the worst examples, in pro sports history, of disregard for the office of the head coach. Dungy is the head coach, for crying out loud. Manning is the quarterback. Yeah, we know that most quarterbacks have the ability to call audibles. But that's part of the authority that the head coach specifically has delegated to the quarterback. No head coach ever has given the quarterback the power to decide whether to go for it on fourth down.

In this case, Manning showed that he regards himself as bigger than the coach -- and that's a big problem.

As one league insider explained to us on Sunday evening, too many players on that team genuinely love Dungy. And Manning blatantly violated Dungy's role. It could create serious problems in the locker room moving forward.

The second bit of evidence came after the game, when Manning tried to explain away his inability to get the passing game going by throwing his offensive linemen under the buffet table: "I'm trying to be a good teammate here. Let's just say we had some problems with protection."

Actually it was a slam on both the blockers and the coaching staff, since the coaches have a pretty big role in keeping the defenders out of the quarterback's face.

"This is on a new level," one league insider said. "This guy is a selfish SOB."

Amen. Pro Football Rumor Mill

36. Actually, in post-game Dungy said the punt team jumped the gun
According to Tony, he had already communicated with Manning that they were going for it and the punt team jumped onto the field without knowing.

Since the play worked, I don't see any reason for Dungy to say it was Manning's call if it wasn't.

16. Chokers is more like it.
Whenever darling Peyton loses in the playoffs it's always an excuse. It's cold, they have no defense, blah blah blah. He had homefield, a bunch of pro bowl players around him, the 10th ranked defense and wasn't playing Tom Brady, there is no excuse for this guy. He's 3-6 in the playoffs lifetime.

If I have to endure Donovan McNabb being called a choker with his 9-5 playoff record and having reached the NFC Championship game 4 times and the Super Bowl with very few weapons all these years than Manning is a fucking choker extraordinaire.

I'm not going to rip Eli quite yet. This playoff game was only his first and he was a second year player. Even though those circumstances didn't seem to bother other QB's you have to give him a break. If he makes the playoffs next year we can judge better.

18. I'd rather have McNab then Manning any day
I have seen McNab throw up in person. That's how hard he was playing, and how badly he wanted to win (he still lost  OU vs. Syracuse).

I just can't imagine manning putting as much on the line as McNab did that day. And McNab has done so much with so little. He got to the super bowl W/O Owens last year, and was still overmatched when Owens (heroically, no matter how big of a dick he's been since) played.

Anyway, I agree with you. McNab has played BIG TIME, in my opinion. Manning ain't done shit. One of four QBs will win the super bowl year, and none of them, by conventional wisdom, is half the QB manning is.

19. He's thrown up a few times.
A few years ago in Jacksonville out of exhaustion when trying to rally the troops to a comeback and, of course, last year in the Super Bowl after Seymoure knocked him out with a hit on the chin. He played the whole second half with a concussion and still gave a valiant comeback effort, losing by only three points. That's why they couldn't run the two minute offense late in the game, dude was on Mars. He was dizzy and sick and could barely talk. It's hard to imagine Manning taking those kind of hits and coming back, he bitches and gets happy feet if he gets hit at all. For my money McNabb is the second best QB in the league behind Brady.

b/c donovan is a fucking competitor. Period. He gives his all.

The game where I saw him throw up in person, well, i've never been so impressed by soneone who puked. Dude gave all. And most games I've seen him play, he has given his ALL. Whereaas manning says: "i try to be a good teammate  but  we had some protection problems "

For my money McNabb is the second best QB in the league behind Brady.

I can't argue that. (except to say that, this year, plummer was better than either ;))

<snip>

Somehow, despite a dozen replays showing Polamalu's catch, the call was overturned by referee Pete Morelli.

"I know they wanted Indy to win this game; the whole world loves Peyton Manning,' Porter said. But come on, man, don't take the game away from us like that."

32. I grow weary, along with everyone else, talking of the dynasty
Sure, the Mannings have produced three quarterbacks, in two generations, that started a regular season NFL game. That's impressive. But then, the Simms Family has two quarterbacks in two generations, with more playoff wins between them. Playoff records:

Family Manning: 3-7
Family Simms: 6-5

Superbowls:
Family Manning: 0
Family Simms: 1

true, you can be absolutely brilliant without winning a superbowl, but it is what seperates the men from the boys, especially at the quarterback position, it's why Elway had a better career than Marino. It's why Terry Bradshaw is a great one, and Montana is a legend. Win in January, and we'll talk.

37. They deserve to be cursed
Peyton is bad enough (and those of us who are Michigan fans remember that he had all but committed to Michigan, then backed out at the last second - good riddance, we got the Heisman, Brian Griese, and a national championship) but the way Eli acted when he was drafted by San Diego was ridiculous, especially with two other pro QBs in the family - no excuse for undermining the NFL that way. Plus they are Bush-loving freaks.

Peyton gave that game away with the interception that was wrongly overturned and he didn't have the grace to mention that call once after the game.

42. Funny... in any sports there are those who play their very best...
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 02:07 PM by theHandpuppet
... when all the chips are at stake. Guys who may not have the best mechanics, the strongest arm, etc., but they just know how to WIN. Play their best game when everything is at stake. Look at some BB players -- there are guys who actually have a better batting percentage when men are on base, or who are at the top of their game come playoff time.

The Mannings have, for all appearances, everything it would take to take home the gold: intelligence, strong arms, great mechanics... so what's the problem? I dunno. It may be just one of those undefinable qualities personified in a QB like Tom Brady.
