George Mason University Beats Michigan State -- NCAA's
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 09:31 PM by autorank

And the alumni are damn happy about it. This under
graduate refused to leave the couch until the game was over.

Jim Laranaga, GMU's coach, sad down his star player because the player
committed a serious personal found in the game prior to tonight. The
player was there, on the bench cheering his team, knowing that if they
lost this would be his last game.

Well, GMU won....

Very good Michigan team.

If we beat UNC, expect more of this tedious boosterism.

1. I should have made my predictions on facebook after reading
Mike Wilbon's column in the post that predicted loads of upsets. Good for GMU though even though I predicted Michigan State would win.

7. I cant change it
Too late now, facebook gave us until Thursday to make our final decision. I actually did great last year because I had UNC beating Illinois and I was right.

4. We're happy to oblige n/t
God, we never win anything except in track - NCAA Champions a few times (hardly anything to burn a couch over).

3. congrats on a great win
that was a fun game to watch. Even though I had MSU going fairly far, I don't have any money in the pool this year, so I was pulling for the upset :)

8. I have to say...

This has truly been one of the more entertaining NCAA's I've seen in years. Lots of nail-biters, no-ranks playing like top seeds, some stunning upsets, etc. Even some of the small schools that eventually lost earned a ton of respect for the way they played with heart and guts. (And pardon me for saying so, but the UConn players looked totally bored by the experience. I was so turned off by their display of robotic apathy after the game -- especially towards the players of the other team -- that I will cheer on anyone else to win but UConn. Their players looked downright annoyed that they would even have to play a tournament to be declared number one -- what a bother! Well, furk you too, guys.)

I don't have a particular favorite this year. I'd like to see OSU make it to the FF but if they don't my heart won't be broken. Mostly I want to see as much excitement as I've seen in this first round. Good luck to all of you who have fave teams who will be playing this weekend!

9. UNC & Mason should entertain.
The guy they sat down is quite a player and he's going to show it when he comes back.

It's nice to see a coach like Laranaga who simply does the right thing without choking or humiliating
a player and to see the player respond with respect.

I immediately dismiss a university as a serious institution of higher learning when they
let some petit dictator bully players or recruit players who clearly have no interest in
college or even behaving themselves. VA Tech is a great school but bears the shame of
recruiting football thugs in the mid 1990's who committed a bunch of assaults on women who were just
trying to get an education.

Hell, UNC will probably win but it should be a good game...but you never know, there's always
a chance for Cinderella to show up.

Great tournament after a great NCAA year in football.

10. Have at it, my friend
GMU just knocked off UNC. I'll jump on the GMU bandwagon. Do we know who they'll play next?

12. Beware of the Bradley Braves!
They look like a real athletic team who may be hitting their stride right about now. As a whole, the MVC was pretty good this year anyway. And McDermott, the UNI coach may move on to either ISU or Iowa real soon. Just sayin'.

13. Your post should say they beat a very good Michigan STATE team
Your subject says Michigan State but your post says Michigan which is the University of Michigan. They aren't in the NCAA tournament; they're in the NIT. But Michigan is still alive in the postseason and no other Big Ten team is.

14. "Very good Michigan team." Mich State is a "Michigan team" haha
Wow, stepped on some toes. I would think that "Michagan" would mean the state in general but if the default meaning is "U of Michigan" I'll accept that. ;)

15. Yep, that is the default....
Michigan means University of Michigan. State means Michigan State.

But I was happy to see George Mason win!
