So "Loyal Americans" are booing the Canadian National Anthem
I don't have a link for this, but I heard that the other night some San Jose hockey "fans" booed when the Canadian National Anthem was played. Two problems with this. At least 10 players on the San Jose team are Cnadian, and Edmonton was the visiting team so it is the correct thing to do; the playing of "O Canada". So maybe in retaliation, when the series returns to Edmonton, the Canadian fans should sing the "Star Spangled Banner"...in Spanish. Now that would be funny.

1. The whole anthem singing is outdated
I don't see why we need to interject the Star Spangeled Banner into a sporting event. In today's world, the flag has been taken over by right-wing nuts. A game is just that -- a sporting event. No need to turn it into a jingoistic rally.

However, booing a national anthem is classless. It's wrong when Canadians boo ours, and I surely don't support us booing "Oh Canada".

2. From what I'm hearing
It was more a poorly thought out expression of dislike for the Edmonton team than any dislike for Canada.

3. It would be ironic if Edmonton had more American born players
than San Jose. I think it's a stupid thing to do honestly. I wouldn't be be happy if someone booed the American anthem either.

4. That's xenophobia run amuck
That's not something I would expect of San Jose. Did the Sharks import their fans from Texas or Idaho for the evening?

5. people boo the Star Spangled Banner all the time
it doesn't excuse it, nor does it really make it xenophobia, just boorishness.

6. Booing national anthems isn't anything new.

I remember watching a Kostya Tszyu fight a few years back, and the Aussie fans booed the opposing fighters' national anthem. The only places that I haven't heard anthems booed were in Germany and Japan.

7. Must be dark skinned Canadians
that are threatening the white power structure. They even fly the Canadian flag! OMG!
