2. Means nothing to me
Sosa, Mcguire, Canseco, Bonds, they're all irrelevant in my record book. Give me Stargell, Aaron, Clemente, hell, even Strawberry. There's baseball, and there's Roidball.

3. Give me Pujols and Papi.
Or Manny Ramirez or Vlad Guerrero.

Here's looking forward to Balco Barry's retirement.

6. I'm guessing some were
But pitching is not necessarily a power position. I look at Glavine today throwing 78 MPH changeups that seem unhitable. But your point is well taken. I just see some of the best pitchers are diminutive players. Look at Pedro, Mariano Rivera, these are not large men.

7. steroids aren't simply about bulk
they build endurance and long muscle as well. All a steroid does is help you work out longer, whatever that workout is. Look at how much longer pitching careers are lasting these days, I'm not insinuating anything, but its's funny how a power hitter who has a rennaisance after 30 is suspect, but a power pitcher isn't.

Baseball wanted home runs to bring in the fans, and that's what they got. If you wipe Bonds from the books, you have to taint every stat between the Strike-non-Series and 2004.

9. better regimes in general
there are better workout regimes in general now than there was 50 or even 20 years ago. back then players worked out only during spring training, didnt to as much weight training, etc. after the season was over, Mickey Mantle would go home to oklahoma and do nothing until the following spring training. now in the off-season, a player goes to his personal gym and hits the weights within a week or two of the end of the season, baring any injuries.

look at roger clemens. ever see his workout regime? it is insane.
careers last longer now because players take better care of themselves. there is also better medical/surgical technologies now than in mickey mantles time. Think about how much longer his career may have lasted if he took better care of himself and they had arthroscopic surgery in his day?

bond's rennissance came after 35 which makes it even more suspect.

10. Bonds who? Pujols is where it's at
Bonds is a hack. 100% juicer and not even a top notch player. Pujols on the other hand already has 80 more homeruns than Bonds did at the same point in his career and Pujols did it without performance enhancing drugs.

4. Meh
You know I'm not celebratory about it . . but I'm not mad as hell that he tied it either. It happened, knew it was going to happen so there it is.
