7. The reason they're not the Senators
is because the Mayor is using it as a protest. "They won't be called the Senators because DC has no Senators. Give us 2 Senators and then they can be called "Senators"."

At least the "Nats" has some history as well.

13. Actually
It's because the Senators were unmitigated jokes in MLB. Though your theory has merit as well.

15. Doesn't MLB still own the team?
I guess they could take it out of the team before they sell it.

16. Yes, and they will make a large profit on the sale.
Just as long as DC pays the $600 million plus for a ballpark, something the mayor said would be "no problem." The ballpark proposal is ridiculous. The club pays nothing for the park and it gets parking and concessions and just about every possible piece of revenue that could come from the park. The city is just tossing its money away on this one. It's quite pitiful.

18. I read that the real reason was . . . .

the reason the name "senators" was rejected was because the mayor of DC thought it was unfair to call their baseball team the senators when they had no actual representation in the senate.
