It's to the point if you're a treadmill team (that is, one that has enough to contend for the 8th spot at best for a few seasons in a row) you have to really, REALLY suck to get better, and even that isn't always a guarantee. I think the Celts are doing the only thing they can to be a contender again - semi-intentionally tank their season for the #1 pick.
It worked for Miami, but not so much for Cleveland or Denver so far. At least Denver remedied their situation of eternal contention by getting AI to compliment Melo.
Cleveland's hang-up is, as always: bad management decisions, mostly past (Paxson's shitty moves KILLED this team and is STILL killing them. Letting Boozer leave and get not a DAMNED thing in return?? Luke Jackson over Jameer Nelson?? Future first round and other draft picks for Jiri Welsch????) and a little present (Brown's lack of an offensive plan and surrounding LeBron with inconsistent/often injured talent like Larry Hughes, Donyell Marshall and Damon Jones come to mind). Only in Cleveland can you get LeBron James handed to you on a silver platter and just freak-fuckin' BLOW it like they are. Cleveland is going to need to make some BOLD moves soon; else you're going to see LeBron in a Brooklyn Nets jersey in 2010.
