Canada wins gold at women's hockey worlds (beats USA)
Once again, Canada reigns supreme in women's hockey, capturing its ninth world title Tuesday night in Winnipeg.

Kim St. Pierre turned aside 21 of 22 shots as Team Canada earned a convincing 5-1 victory over the United States in the final of the women's world hockey championship before a capacity crowd of 15,003 at the MTS Centre.

The North American rivals have met in all 10 world finals, with Canada winning the first eight before falling 1-0 to the U.S. in a shootout two years ago.

Since then, Canada has claimed gold medals at the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games, the Four Nations Cup and the 2007 worlds.

:woohoo:

1. Women's hockey is better than men's right now on the world level.
I could less about the US Men's teams,or NHL players playing in the Olympics. This stuff here is far better.

Women's tennis is way ahead too.

2. Can't agree about tennis

The American women are very weak as a group. The recent results in majors have been horrible, in terms of numbers of players advancing deep into the tournament. Many unprecedented failures.

Not that the American men have been great but at least they have an excuse, an all time dominant player like Federer ahead of them. On the women's side you've got mush like Sharapova in the #1 slot for most of the past year. This is actually a very disappointing period for USA women's tennis since Serena and Venus are in their prime and should be winning virtually every major event, other than lack of dedication.

On edit: maybe I misunderstood the point, the comparisons being made country to country. But I'll let my paragraphs stand since they're otherwise valid.

3. I basically just meant overall.
For a stretch there men's tennis was as interesting as watching paint dry,and we had one great match after the other with the women. It has evened back out a bit more lately though,I admit.I actually watched an entire men's match not too long ago, which I couldn't do for quite awhile.

Of course,I should state that I'm far from knowledgable about tennis as a whole. My comments are from the "casual" fan's perspective. :) I remember really being into the sport back in the days of Connors,Everett,McEnroe,Borg and those characters, but my interest waned a lot after that.It wasn't until the Williams sisters that my interest was piqued again.

And Congrats to the Woman's Canadian team, which I forget to mention in my first post!
