COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State freshman Greg Oden will make himself available for the NBA draft today , a family friend said Thursday night.

"There will be a release in the morning from Ohio State. Greg Oden will be hiring an agent," said Al Powell, who has been a party to meetings between Oden and two other Buckeyes freshmen stars considering the draft.

As for the two others, Powell was less specific.

"Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook will not be hiring an agent at this time," said Powell, a paid assistant coach at Dayton's Dunbar High School who helped coach all three players when they played AAU ball.

1. Isn't his "agent" going to be Mike Conley's father? LOLOL
I'm getting dizzy trying to figure out how many rules they can skirt with that little maneuver. For example, anything Conley does on behalf of his son will be construed as being within the family, so it will be allowed, and any money that Oden pays the Conleys that trickles back to the players will be construed as coming from a "friend".

Besides, this can't be!!!!! The people from Ohio State that I got into a heated "conversation" with a few weeks ago (my BF and I dared to clap for Tennessee while wearing Michigan clothes) PROMISED me that Greg Oden loves school, carries a 3.7 GPA, and would for sure be returning for his sophomore year.

2. Loves Millions More
Maybe he was claiming to stay in school before he realized how many millions he could make in the NBA. He had put out a statement before the end of the college season that he wanted to return to school so he could continue to learn the game. However, It seems he loves the millions more than he loves school and has decided that what he could learn in school, in terms of the game, he could learn in the NBA. Also, maybe he plans to return for his sophomore year during the summer. Some NBA players have finished their degrees by going to school in the summer.

3. He would have never went to college if he didn't have to wait a year
to be eligible for the draft. I understand that was a rule put into place this year. I kind of like the rule. Would rather it be 2 years, but can't have everything.

4. This is probably a good thing for me, since Oden will probably go
early meaning the Sixers won't get him, and there's a better chance they pick up Noah, Horford, Brewer, etc.

5. I think the Sixers make a deal to move up
they have 3 first rounders. I think they try to make a deal to move up.

6. Is anyone surprised?
This was a done deal before he even began his 'college career.'

8. Nothing wrong with him going for the money
If he fails at the NBA by getting injured he can return to college and pay his own way. He will have enough money he wouldn't have to work while going to school, something anyone who has had to pay for their own education would do the same, if they were in his shoes.
