Patriots acquire Randy Moss from Oakland
<snip>

"In a stunning move, the Patriots traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Raiders for controversial wide receiver Randy Moss today.

Trade discussions picked up after the first day of the NFL draft and continued into this morning. The Patriots have tentatively scheduled a conference call with Moss for later today.

The fourth-round pick traded to the Raiders had been acquired on Saturday from the 49ers. The Patriots traded their 2007 first-round pick (28th overall) to the 49ers for a 2008 first-round pick and 2007 fourth-round pick (110th).

Moss is currently in New England undergoing a physical. He has agreed to restructure and/or extend his contract to consummate the deal. He is due base salaries of $9.25 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Moss enters his 10th NFL season after having played for the Vikings (1998-2004) and Raiders (2005-2006). He had a career-low 42 catches for 553 yards and three touchdowns last season as the Raiders struggled to a 2-14 record, and is said to be motivated to join a winning program."

1. Isn't fourth round a bit of an insult?
Regardless, I hope someone tells Randy attitude isn't going to impress Bill Belichick

2. Best line
There’s a report that Coach Belichick saw you run 4.2940, is that true?

"Let’s put it this way, the Moss of old is back. We’ll leave it at that."

3. As a Pats fan, I'm excited.
But...and this is a HUGE "but"...they need to watch their step. I'm glad that they told him that "One fuck-up and we cut you."

Moss seems to have an excellent attitude towards coming to New England, though, so that has alleviated my worries a bit. Plus he just took a huge pay cut.

14. His first year, yes. But we still didn't win the Super Bowl, and the next
year was a disaster. I don't really think the same thing will happen to Moss, but Owens was the definition of a cancer.

TO is way, way down the list.

Moss and Brady together?? OH MY GOD

I'm a HUGE Moss fan probably because I have lots of Marshall ties and because he is still the best player(top5 easily) in the league.

9. I think its the beginning of the end for the Belichick regime.
When you start to acquire free-agents that are a little long in the tooth and with character issues, your demise is not far off. Trust me--- I witnessed Shula do it at the end and then Jimmy Johnson. It seems to me that Belichick is moving away from his old system to a patchwork system to try and win now instead of later. Will it work? Maybe---but in mho, it ends up blowing up in your face.

16. You forget--the Pats gave up virtually nothing to get Moss
and they are paying him practically nothing. They can dump him any time they like should he start giving them shit.

Plus, the reason New England picked up so many free agents was because they didn't like the looks of the draft class--not because Belichick and Pioli are going supernova.

Are you seriously going to tell me that gambling virtually nothing to get Moss was THAT bad of a move?

32. plus, to be fair
Belichek wants to make one more serious run with Brady, who's not going to be around for too much longer. they are picking up people like Moss who need to rehab their reputations and want a ring, badly.

15. ah, the beginning of the end
The Patriots success as been predicated on a few things the last couple of years.

1. Excellent Coaching.
2. Good locker room.
3. Health problems, or lack thereof.
4. Luck.

1. They've lost a lot of good assistant coaches recently.
2. They're bringing in bad character guys, which is something they used to never do.
3. The injury bug can only stay away for so long, Brady hasn't been hurt yet, but he's due.
4. Luck doesn't hold out forever.

17. Injury bug staying away? Are you kidding me?????
The Patriots have been perennial victims of the "injury bug" since the beginning of the Brady era. And yet, even with the injury-ravaged team they had last year, they STILL came within a whisker of the Super Bowl.

And maybe it's not luck...maybe they're, oh, I don't know...good?

1. Yup, but we only missed the Super Bowl by less than a minute
2. Yup, bad guys who cost zero and will be removed immediately if they screw up
3. Um, 2005 was injury-palooza (especially at safety, and no team wins a ring anymore without an excellent safety) for the Pats, or does 26 injured starters and a recieving corps so banged up that the depth charts were emptied not count? Last year was better, but this idea that we've been free of injury is laughable.
4. You can believe it's luck if it comforts you. It did start with some luck - the snow game, the Bledsoe injury - but has been sustained by far more than happy chance.

Ted Ginn?

A speed reciever when you have no QB?

Whose foot injury will keep him out of camp?

Cameron tried to sell this one to the draft crowd and got booed.

Speaking of tick-tock.

24. Moss is a loser.
He will bring his loser attitude to the Patriot locker room, internal issues will develop, and Belichick will be looking for work next year.

Face it, this is a reward for bad behavior. Moss QUIT last year, not finishing routes, not trying hard, giving a half-assed effort because he was unhappy. He's a punk.

34. He pulls that stuff here and he'll sit so fast his ass will blister upon landing.
The Pats play mega-hardball with their players. They CUT Troy Brown for crying out loud!

Everyone also told us Dillon would be a pain in the ass and he's been a steady, solid player who never makes a peep.

Not defending the punk, just pointing out that if the punk wants to play he can't fuck off and get away with it.

Personally I'm hoping Harrison nails him at least once in practice though. :)

29. Meanwhile...
Carolina cuts Keyshawn Johnson

<snip>

"When the Carolina Panthers drafted Southern California receiver Dwayne Jarrett in the second round Saturday, Keyshawn Johnson was ecstatic.

"This is a great pick. We need another wide receiver," Johnson gushed while working as a draft analyst for ESPN. "This guy is much like me. I'm going to teach him how to play from the point of attack."

He won't get the chance.

The Panthers deemed their older former USC receiver was expendable Tuesday. Johnson, the 6-foot-4 possession receiver and 1996 No. 1 overall pick, was released to make way for a younger 6-foot-4 possession receiver taken with the 45th pick.

"We appreciated the contribution of Keyshawn in his season with the Panthers," coach John Fox said. "He brought us high production, but at this time, we are in a situation in which we have a number of young receivers and thought this was the right time to make the decision."
