Whenever I see the name "Hilton" from Canada, I'm reminded of many years ago, when teams from NYS competed against the amateur teams from the north. Tough guys. I had a friend named Bob Edgett, who had a heck of a good team in the 1960s and '70s. I think the Hiltons from the '80s had some problems outside the ring.
ESPN's Wednesday Night Fights are going to feature Yuri Boy Campas against a tough young contender. Campas fought a war against Irish sensation John Duddy a while back. He is still able to provide a serious test for the young contenders, but this is going to take a terrible toll on him in another 7 or 8 years.
ShowTime continues to provide high quality fights on their Friday night shows. They are, of course, 2nd and 3rd tier fighters, but they are putting on matches that feature the guys who will be in the top tier in the next 12 to 18 months. If Eddie Chambers can get by Dominick Guinn, he will be a top 10 heavyweight. Guinn, who was at one time considered a potential champion, has not lived up to his potential. If there is any single example of a boxer who suffers from self-doubt, it is Guinn. Too bad, because he has all the physical tools.
Also in the news is another "come back" by James "Lights Out" Toney. He will probably win a couple of fights, and then get beat by the next serious contender he fights.
I believe that ESPN is planning to showcase a number of Mayweather and De La Hoya's fights starting Friday Night. HBO will also be showing their 24/7 series.
