Van Gundy to Magic -- and Heat will be compensated
<snip>

"Stan Van Gundy has apparently landed the job he wanted most, and the Miami Heat will be compensated for letting him out of the final year of his contract as a team consultant.

Van Gundy has reportedly reached a deal with the Orlando Magic to replace Billy Donovan, who was let out of his five-year, $27.5 million contract with the Magic on Wednesday.

The Orlando Sentinel has reported that Van Gundy, 46, will be introduced by the Magic at a press conference in Orlando Thursday afternoon.

The Heat is expected to receive at least one of Orlando's three second-round picks in the June 28 draft as compensation for agreeing to release Van Gundy from his contract. The Heat has the No. 20 pick in the draft but did not have a second-round pick. Orlando has no first-round pick but has picks No. 39, 44 and 54."

3. I love the Heat
But that was BS demanding compensation. Riley allegedly forced the guy to quit, and then tried to dictate terms of his return by not demanding a pick from the Kings but asking the Magic for a second round pick. Considering Riley's poor success of picking in the draft (except for Wade), I wouldn't sweat it too much if I were Orlando.

I wish Van Gundy success in Orlando. I'll continue to pull for my Heat, but Stan Van Gundy has a hell of a lot more class than Riley.
