Now you have a full understanding of what it means to be a UVa fan
As my wife so aptly put it once, "Oh I'm sorry we were about to win the game. Here, please take the ball"

:eyes:

Texas Tech scored 17 points in the last 3 minutes and something to beat UVa.

UVa had TWO SAFETIES for crying out loud and they STILL LOST. No one does that no one....well UVa does Sheeeeesh

Chicago Cubs fans have a lot longer story but in recent history UVa has been the most underachieving sports program in the country at least in football and basketball.

Yesterday's game goes down with all the losses to UNC when the Hoos clearly had a better team, it goes down with the Junior Burroughs lead b-ball team that visibly ran out of gas at the end of games because they had exactly FIVE scholarship quality players on the team, it goes down with UVa being the #1 team in the US (Aaron Brooks QB'ing) and losing the last 4 or 5 games to fall off the map. Trust me I could go on and on and on.

There was of course the first victory over Florida State back in '95 (I think it was) Not only were we all shocked that they actually pulled off a play at the end of game it is telling that we still grasp that one game all these years later.

1. Cheers to you My Friend
After the UVA game I told my Wife that I'd rather Arkansas lost the way they did then the way UVA did. That was brutal.

2. very ironic considering
that the way TT won was the way UVa won a whole bunch of games this year (including the homecoming game at my alma mater, Maryland)

4. Oh I know
UVa won that game and the Wake game when they had no business even being IN them.

What comes around and all that but that was really painful to watch, even for a UVa fan.

3. If UVA is looking for 'sympathy', they'll find it btwn 'shit' and 'syphllis' in the dictionary...
I remember when UVA - the state U that only began admitting women in 1974 - decided on a whim to double their athletic budget to generate winning teams. Terry Holland was the first good coach they got, out of Kentucky and then they got in the bidding war for George Welsh.

Things are tough all over.

Old Dominion and William and Mary were/are grossly underfunded and could barely keep toilet paper in the bathrooms and UVA decided to double their athletic budget. La di dah...

5. Life long UVA here
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 02:06 PM by Cush
my dad is a UVa grad, so I grew up a fan, here's what I posted yesterday in another thread

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=215x63046

"another Classic Choke by Virginia

didn't bother watching as I knew they would lose. I did keep tabs on the score, but once I saw they were up 28-14 in the 4th, I knew it was over (meaning they would choke)...they always find a way to blow it."

they seem to understand the phrase "playing catch up", but "holding a lead" is completely foreign

8. Oooh generations of suffering
:hi::cry::hi:

As I posted below this means that UVa gave up 17 in 3:31 and Tech gave up 14 in 3:00 against BC ---IN THE SAME SEASON. A state full of suck.

6. I had a feeling it was over when Lalich came in
And BTW, can someone please tell why in the hell UVA was passing on the play where Lalich fumbled? Every play for the rest of the game should have been run, run, and run again.

Just one tidbit though: Shawn Moore was our QB when we were #1. I've never been more crestfallen watching sports than when they lost that game to Ga. Tech.

7. You are right
Moore not Brooks. My bad.

No offence to Lalaich (thouh that was areally lame "pass" attampt) but Groh totally screwed that game up. The rumors at the beginning of the year were that Groh had to win 10 to keep his job-I wouldn't have thought that possible...I wonder if 9 was enough.

BTW- you realize that the Tech fans are loving this especially after all the crap they caught when THERE TEAM folded against BC.

Wow what is up with Virginia teams?
