Peyton Manning
The truth is he is one of the all time chokes. He did win last year but that is it. Once again, this year he is back to Peyton He always lost at Tennessee and he always lost in the NFL.

1. I don't think you can say Peyton choked this year.
I don't really care about Manning or the Colts, but SD played some really good D in that game, and really there were two plays, neither of which being Manning's fault, that cost them the game. The first was the Harrison fumble. The second was the INT down near the Chargers' goal line, the one that bounced off his receiver's hands. Take away either of those, and either you'd be talking about him "choking" against the Pats, or his upcoming choke against his little bro.

5. So your operating theory here is that...
whenever Manning's team loses, it's because he chokes. Receivers fumbling or dropping the ball, irrelevant. That's Peyton's fault too.

And when he wins, it doesn't count. Right?

Okey dokey.

7. Colts were definitely worse in the red zone this season
Versus the best opponents. Indy would have defeated NE this year other than blowing so many opportunities in the first half, settling for FGs.

Manning does seem a bit impatient in the red zone, shuffling his feet and occasionally forcing things. They lack someone clever like Welker, that's one main factor.

Plus, last year the Colts OL was more veteran. They lost the LT, Tarik Glenn, to surprise retirement and this season the running game was less dependable in the red zone. Remember, in the AFC title game last season the Colts stuffed it into the end zone on the ground for the winning score.

10. you are one of those fans that blames everything on the QB
it would help to learn a little more about the game. I guess Brady choked last year. And Marino must have choked all those years he didn't win it all.

16. first off
I didn't insult anyone but I have been watching sports since 1961. I saw the ice bowl. I saw when Havlicek stole the pass in 1965 that you see all the time on NBA highlights. I watched every world series since 1960. I saw all the NBA champs. I played basketball until i was 46 years old. I could play with black people. I was quick and I could guard almost everyone. I played with all the Atlanta Falcons including Chris Miller so I don't need your approval to know what you think I know about sports. My father was a minor league baseball player. Manning did not win the big games at Tennessee. When it was his turn to step up in college he really didn't. He has always been second banana to Brady. With the exception of the super bowl year he has been completely mediocre in the big games. Name all the big wins he had in the playoffs or in the big college games.

all the Falcons and if you don't play much ball then you don't know what I am talking about. I also used to play with a women who was in the first professional league and she could really play hoop. I would love to see you play hoop

11. You're the kind of person that makes sports talk radio
practically insufferable with your stupid, drunken comments.

Yea, he sucks. :eyes:

"Manning is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of his era. Manning has established several NFL records, including most consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing (1999-2004)<3> and most seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career (8).<4> Manning is second on the list for highest career passer rating, behind only the retired Steve Young.<5> Manning is also the all-time career passing yards and passing touchdowns leader for the Colts franchise, having passed Johnny Unitas's marks." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyton_Manning

12. Cboy from Roseville on line one
still standing by your man the bondster? And obviously your support of Peyton Manning is purely subjective; its as obvious as the color of your orange. We only have a few seconds left.

Peyton is the MAN, a man with an awesome little brother.

Stupid, drunken comments? Is that redundant?

13. Yea, Manning was "only" 39-6 with the Vols. They lost one
game in 1995, beat Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl and finished ranked #3.

Stupid and drunken are not necessarily redundant.

I'm just mad at myself that I didn't include more insults in my OP.

14. And the only reason
Tennessee won the National Championship in 98 (without Peyton) is because Clint Stoerner fumbled the ball late in the fourth quarter. I remember it well. Hanging out in a bar in Biloxi Mississippi with about an 80-20 Tennessee crowd.

18. see above this was directed to you
I don't call talk radio but I bet I know twice as much and seen twice as many games as you and I was a better athlete than you. How many professional athletes have you played with. I played with all Falcons in the 1980's and I certainly held my own. The only two players that I thought were truly great were Jamie Dukes and Chris Miller Look up who they were and what position they played.

24. you know, there is a spectrum
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 10:31 AM by northzax
between "suck" and "greatest"

and yes, Marino's inability to win a superbowl hurts his legacy.

think of it this way. you are building a team. you can pick one quarterback to start for your team, for their entire career. they will have the exact same stats as they did (or have up to now) in their career.

you taking Marino and all his yards, or Brady and his rings?

obviously rings aren't everything, especially one ring. a team can carry a mediocre quarterback to one ring in the perfect circumstance (see: Dilfer, T)

25. give Marino Brady's team
and he'd win just as many rings or at least close to it. People always lose sight of the team and give far too much credit or blame to the QB.

28. real free agency wasn't available
until very late in his career. Secondly, he wanted to be part of the turnaround in Miami. They never did fix that defense until he was gone.

Do you think Trent Dilfer was better than Marino? He has a ring. What about Brad Johnson?

23. He won last year only because Grossman is horrendous.
The Colts did everything they could to give that game away but Grossman was determined to fuck it up. Any other starting QB in the league would have won that game.

27. Beat Me To It
I agree with you that the main reason the Colts won last year is because Rex Grossman was the quarterback. I think that just about any other quarterback in the league could have and would have won that game.
