Next NY team to win it all= The Mets
I think the Giants are just warming up the canyon of heroes on tuesday.

I just don't see how anyteam in the NL East is going to over take this Mets team. Their starting pitching is just stacked!!!

Santana

Martinez

Maine

Perez

El Duque/Pelfrey

Keep in mind that Pelfrey is the 5th starter and the wild card in this rotations. That guy has the stuff of an ace and three some real good games late in the season. Even if they falter the Mets still have insurance for that spot.

They get full season with a healthy Duaner Sanchez who is the best middle reliever in the game and it's just lights out. Not to mention Pedro who will not be facing ace pitching. The Mets are justed loaded with starting pitching and I don't see anyone that can match that in the NL.

Their lineup may not be as good as the 06 version but it's still potent. I don't see this Mets team taking anyone for granted following last seasons collapse. I think by the All Star Break they have the NL East pretty much wrapped up with a nice 12 game lead and building.

1. I'll give you the pitching
But I would hate to pitch to the Phillies lineup everyday.

5. You win with good pitching over good hitting any day of the week
The Cards came in here in 06 and just pitched their asses off. They won that series being one pitch better than the Mets in Game 7 and Game 2.

The Mets clearly had the best lineup in the NL going into that series.

I really don't think Philly or anyone else has much of a prayer against this pitching staff. In baseball it's proven every single year; Good pitching wins championships.

4. Minaya just played Minnesota like a fiddle
NO WAY can you put the tag on the Mets that they are out to buy one. The Twins could have told the Mets that signing Santana is their problem and the Mets still would have done this deal.

On the Santana front the Mets made a smart trade. And there are tons of teams in this league with money to spend. Problem is that they tighten the purse strings.

The Mets are team that's peppered with a mix of developed players, smart trades and Free Agent signings peppered in.

Folks were fast and loose with that claim against the Yankees long before they were actually doing that. When they started winning they had many teams above them in salary. Right now the Yankees are buying championships. And they ain't winnin any.

6. nah
that staff is too old. As Glen Sather said, "young players get better, old players just get older."

7. Glen Sather is kinda proven himself a complete idiot over the years.
I think Pelfrey is pretty young.

8. Pedro
and El Duque are not. That lineup has a lot of age as well.

9. Take a look at the Roster Glen Sather famously assembles each year
HE doesn't even believe is own cliche.

Maine, Perez, Santana, Pelfrey, Sanchez, Heliman, Feliciano and Sosa are all young.

Wright, Reyes, Beltran, Pagan, Church are as well.

If El Duque and Pedro are all you got to throw out there then you are clearly grasping at straws. And old Man Schilling certainly pulled it off last season.

Pedro is a #2 Starter that 99.9% of this league wishes they had.

Nice try though.

10. coming off major surgery
He'll be a shell of what he was. Other old guys include Delgado, Alou, and Castillo. Wagner is not a pup either and has a history of choking in big games.

11. Major surgey?
Yeah, like the guy had heart surgery, hip replacement and tommy John surgery.

Are you kidding?

As far as age goes, you're need even calling off 50% of the roster.

And like I said, there are guys in this league where age doesn't really matter. Pedro is still extremely effective. Delgado is 35 years old and plays first base.

are you kidding me with that?

LMFAO!!!!

12. you don't know Pedro is effective
The guy didn't return from rotator cuff surgery until September and didn't have his velocity. He's not the same guy he was. And for a pitcher, that is a major surgery.

13. You've absolutely lost your mind
Pedro in 5 starts went 3-1 with 32 Ks 2.57 ERA in 28 innings.

That's not effective?

14. that's an extremely small sample
and you don't know how the arm will bounce back. And his velocity was down. Counting on him just may not be a good idea.

17. Santana is a great pitcher
and it was a great trade for you guys to get him. But the rest of the rotation is very questionable.
