As a Giant fan, how wrong is it to root for the hated Iggles?
I hate the Eagles. I grew up in central Jersey where the football border lines cut right through my school 1/2 Eagles, 12/ Giants and 2 kids whose fathers made them watch the Jets. I wasn't born an Eagle hater. I was trained.

Trained by a missed FG that turned into a TD.

Trained by Cunningham running for his life

Trained by same Cunningham unbelivibly punting the ball 90+ yards

Trained by having a best friend(still have him) who was absolutely merciless when rubbing it in.

Then we won for awhile...a couple of years or so. Now the Giants are back to being the Eagles bitch and it tears me up inside.

BUT I'm in a little pool for dough where we picked each playoff week and have cumulative totals to determine the winner. The dough isn't huge but its a nice chunk. There's one guy, one game ahead of me and he's picking the Pats. So I have to pick the Eagles if I want the dough....but I don;t have to actually root for them do I?

Thoughts?

1. I'm a Long-Time Giants Fan
and I'd like to see the Eagles win. This year.

2. You don't and shouldn't root for them.
But you have to pick the Eagles; you don't have a choice. And if the Eagles do end up winning your storm cloud will have a silver lining.

3. Speaking as a Jet fan....
and long time season ticket holder, I asked myself whether I should root for the Pats to uphold the "honor" of the AFC East as the NFL's toughest division or root for the NFC's best. Simple decision, Belichick left us to be the SOJ (same old Jets) and the Pats have now won 2 Supes with him as coach. Go Eagles!!!!!!!!!!

4. I'm a Giants fan and know what you mean.
But I'm also rooting for the underdog this year, and we all know pretty much what team that is. It's time, as distasteful as it might be, to let someone else have a shot. My 2 cents! :-)

6. I'm in the same boat...
Been with the Giants since the early 80's, suffered all through the Dave Brown years (why DID they stick with that guy for so long), watched in horror as the damned Ravens won that miserable SB, and I'd love to see the Eagles win. Why? I have no idea, maybe I'm sick of the Pats winning. Now I know how Yankee haters feel...sort of.

I still have fond memories of LT terrorizing Randall Cunningham. It was a joy to watch!

7. Yet another Giants fan going for the PATS.
Why? Not just the rivalry. In my class this year, many have dumped their original teams for the EAGLES. Eeh. It's all a whole bunch of front-running and I'd like to put them in their place.

8. Its wrong, its wrong, its wrong
Lookit, I HATE the Giants, you HATE the Eagles, we should keep our hatreds pure.

Of course with money involved, I could teach you the words to the Eagles Fight Song!

12. Ohh that's a low blow....
Then again as a great supporter of literacy initiatives, its good to hear Iggle fans get some hooked on phonics time in. ;-)

9. As a long-time Cowboys fan I hate
the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins. Everyone in the office is either Eagles, Redskins or ravens fans.

I guess i'll be rooting for New England. Terrell Owens is really annoying.

Though on the other hand Oxyrush hates McNabb, so maybe i'll have to root for the iggles.

Damn, now i'm confused. Must have beer.

10. How did you manage to leave out "the Fumble"
As a Giants and Jets fan, there is some twisted consolation in that it was Herm Edwards who ran back the debacle in the Meadowlands.

I'm rooting for the Eagles.

11. Well I was 2 years old....
so the bitterness was not strong in me yet.

Even with bitter Eagles losses, all that was done was forment my hatred for them. But you may ask what caused me to question all that is good and decent and why the hell I was a Giant fan(we call this process maturing)? That would be the Dark Ages otherwise known as RH's reign of terror. I can't bring myself to say his name, cringe whenever I hear it and I have issues even writing his initials. He's like Voldemort.

But thank you for using the CORRECT description of that play.

14. If its any consolation
You have a Manning at QB. I suspect it will be not very long before he is terrorizing the division.

17. Thanks everyone...
I've decided to enjoy the game for what it is. If the Eagles win, I get the silver lining of some cash. If they lose, I get to heckle my friend.

It's win-win!
