Poll question: Unofficial over/under: 10 games for Brett Favre with the Jets
Not 10 wins - ten games. Given his consecutive games streak, over seems the intuitive answer, but before you vote, here's three scenarios I've come up with off the top of my head:

1. Favre gets off to a slow start, gets benched, and spends the rest of the season passive-aggressively undermining the coach and the front office until he gets to play again.
2. He gets injured in training camp, and misses a significant part of the season. I don't care who you are, if you're in the NFL, where 250 lb. linebackers run 4.4 40s, you can get injured.
3. He gets through about half of the season, and either can't quite get the offensive system or just doesn't have it anymore. He knows it, and retires after 8 games or so.

All of those, or any combination of the above, seems plausible to me. I'm going under.

1. They should have kept Pennington.

He has injury issues, but just about every season he plays most of the games, the Jets make the playoffs. He also happens to be the most accurate passer in NFL history (65.6 %)

This article lays out his case: http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/11_2286_The_most_underrated_quarterbacks.html

So the Jets have given all that up for a 38 year old QB whose best days are clearly behind him. And oh, BTW, he has a month to learn the playbook by opening day.

With moves like this, it's easy to see why the Jets haven't won anything in 40 years.

2. Pennington was 1-7 as the starter last year
He was then benched in favor of Kellen Clemens.

Favre was 13-3 and took his team to the NFC championship game.

5. Don't matter....
He will run smack into the wall this year and then into the NY media. It ain't gonna be pretty.

9. You;re right, the NY media will eat him alive...
...people don't realize how brutal they are there, especially if Brett doesn't live up to expectations.

7. That was a far better team in Green Bay.
In Green Bay, he had Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, and Donald Lee to throw to. Jerricho Cotchery, Lavernues Coles, Brad Smith, and Dustin Keller isn't exactly what I would call trading up.

10. Indeed . Which is why I say 9-7 for NYJ this year and not 13-3
Still more than twice as many wins as the Jets had last year

3. He's had a lot of shoulder problems over the years.
Shoulders aren't elbows - there's no Tommy John surgery for rotator cuffs or labrums. At least, not yet. So, once a quarterback (or a pitcher for that matter) has had a major shoulder injury, it's often only a matter of time before the next one. And if it's happened twice, a third is pretty much a certainty. Not to mention the loss of arm strength that's bound to come with all the time recovering from shoulder surgery, and not throwing. So, Pennington is far from reliable at this point.

8. Yeah, how did that end again?
If you said "With yet another costly interception to cost his team a playoff game", congratulations.

6. 32 games
I'll give him two seasons.

They'll only be so-so years.

12. S-U-C-K, Suck! Suck! Suck!
Favre is in for a rude shock. His entire adult life has been spent in creampuff media markets like Green Bay and Hattiesburg/Biloxi. The first time he lays an egg, the NY sportswriters are going to go nuts, and the knuckleheads at the Meadowlands will follow suit.

As a lifelong Patriots fan, I am eagerly awaiting the spectacle.
