When did the last undefeated Men's Hoops team win the NCAA Tourney?
Seriously, I don't know. It must have been quite some time ago. I don't think UNLV even did it--I think they lost a couple the year they won, and the year they were undefeated and highly favored, they didn't win.

I'm thinking you Illini fans might want to see your team drop a game or two before March Madness starts!

1. UNLV came close
in 1992, but lost to my team with Laettner's free throws.

I don't think in this day and age a team can go unbeaten and win the NCAA championship, but there is a first time for everyone. I just don't think Illinois is that team.

2. 1976 or 77 (can't remember) Indiana Hoosiers
The year before that they lost in the regional finals (I think) as the first loss in their season only after their top player went down with an injury and couldn't play.

6. Welcome to DU! Who do you think they'll lose to?
You're probably right--the longer Illinois goes undefeated, the more other teams are gunning for them. There's just too much parity these days for any one team to NOT lose.

7. Here Is One Factor In Illinois Favor...
Edited on Thu Feb-24-05 10:26 AM by The Great Escape
the Big Ten Tourney Is In Chicago...they are likely headed to Indianapolis for there fist round games...in the NCAA Tourney...if they win two games their its back to Chicago (assuming they are top seed for Midwest, which is almost a certainty) for the Regional Championships. A win in the regionals sends them to St. Louis for the final four. They could play the entire post season just a couple of hours from their campus.

10. I'm not so sure they will lose there, but MSU and Wisc. might be capable
Their (UI) defense will give them an advantage over most everyone, and they have enough weapons on offense to weather a slump. Teams with a big, athletic 3 might give them a matchup problem, which is one drawback to the 3 guard set. I'm also interested to see how they would match up against a bruising team that is able to control the tempo. Other than MSU and UW, they haven't faced very tough competition either.

12. They had 2 losses that year...
To Wake Forest and UNC but not in the ACC tourney...the lost badly to UNC in the 1991 ACC tournament.

The 92 team was about as good as you could get in college hoops...I mean "the shot" against Kentucky, just awesome!

13. ACC tournament final was what I meant, just saw it on a Coach K show
Fox Sports had some 'Coach K: The True Story" show on the other day where they were talking about how that year finally got them from good to great status. I can't stand Duke (I do like a few players - Deng, Hurley, Hill, Brand, and respect Redick a lot), but that '92 team as very good. Pretty-boy's shot was one of the best plays in college BB history, but he should have been ejected earlier that game. It might just be me, but I thought the '99 team could also have been one of the best teams ever in terms of pure talent, but they couldn't finish the job.

14. I loved the 1999 tournament! Because UCONN beat Duke!
What a great game--Duke was hanging around for the coronation--so were all those stupid sportswriters, and guess what--UCONN was the better team!
