My Pirates will finish fourth, 20 games out. 75-87.

21. It's called denial
I'm right there with him. I think the Pirates are capable of surprising some people this year. I wouldn't be shocked if they finish above .500 but it's going to take some close wins and good late inning pitching to do it. Whether they're capable of that this year...I don't know.

I think through 6 innings they can hang in there with most teams. The big question is whether their bullpen this year will guard the gates.

I could be way off the mark though.

3. Ahead of the Pirates...
...I hope! :P Actually, if their rotation stays healthy, they've got a legit shot at going all the way.

4. 3rd in the AL West
behind Oakland & Anaheim. 82-80. Still plenty of hitting, not enough pitching (although we're coming up with some decent guys).

5. Major Leage MVP Carl Crawford
while batting 325, scoring 110 runs, stealing 60 bases, will lead the miracle DRays to the MoneyLeague East championship while we old st pete residents sit around the Budweiser bar in the Trop and laugh our ass off at the whiney fans of the boys from our great NE & Baltimore.

28. I watched Carl Crawford learn how to hit
at class A Charleston. I don't think he would be anywhere nearly as good if it wasn't for a coach by the name of Dwight Smith (played with atl, chi, balt, I believe). Every time I walked in the ballpark (and that is a LOT) I saw smith and crawford off to the side working on something.

and crawford is the only person that I have seen beat out a routine grounder to short. and it was not in the hole by any means; the shortstop only had to move a step and a half to his left, and he still missed crawford by a half a step. just awsome.

once crawford started going the other way and finding the ally in right, I figured he was destined for the majors. but then he actually started hitting HRs towards the end of his playing days in charleston . . .

Edited on Fri Feb-25-05 09:22 PM by HuckleB
Cubs in first.

Mariners in second, one game behind the A's and one game ahead of the Yankees for the WC. (I've got a feeling the Angels are going to flop. I don't know why. I just do.)

Alas, the Brewers will always be stuck at the bottom, at least until they get rid of that goofy new logo.

14. I can envision a 4-way battle
Twins, Tribe, Tigers & Sox.

Tigers have made enough intersting acquisitions (Mags & Percival), to go along with Pudge & others.

Strange prediction: Bonderman will win 18-20 games.

Clip & save :)

only this time they will make it past the ALDS, and actually get in the World Series (and win)

We have killer pitching this year, and we have added offense.

and go to the World Series and win it thanks to a mid season trade for a dominant starting pitcher.

24. Put me down for a third place Pirates finish
Edited on Sat Feb-26-05 06:53 PM by Allenberg
Perez, Wells, Fogg, Redman, and *insert prospect here* makes for a soild rotation, and Matt Lawton is a big upgrade in CF. All we need now is for Ty Wigginton to cut down on strikeouts, Jack Wilson to stay consistent, and Benito have at least a little gas in the tank. Pirates finish behind St. Louis and Chicago with a 83-78 record.

They made some good off-season acquisitions that should improve a team that won 91 games in 2004.

29. no telling. the NL west is a toss-up.
the giants are old. the dodgers are totally rebuilt. the padres could come from nowhere and surprise everyone. And I'm not sure about Az. the rox are the rox.

but if SF's major problem was their bullpen, and Lord knows it was, I'm not sure they have addressed the whole problem. they signed a closer, but they lost plenty of leads before they got to the ninth.

LA won the division, and was promptly dismantled. as such, all bets are off until we get some history under us. beltre got away, but I've watched beltre underachieve for 6 years, so it's at least 50-50 that last year was a "walk year fluke". my thinking is that a lot depends on brad penny's mysterious arm injury, JD drew's health, and milton bradley's anger management counselor. and that's assuming that derek lowe does what we expect him to do -- excel. and, of course, eric gagne tweaked his MCL thursday. that could be a very small thing, or it could nag him for the rest of the year.

it will be interesting. and anyone that says they know how the west will finish is deluded or lying. :)
