Lawmaker compares BCS to communism
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/30481373/

Go Joe Barton...oh wait, he's a Repuke...oh hell, Go anyway! The BCS is a joke!

WASHINGTON - A congressman who wants to see college football adopt a playoff system is comparing the Bowl Championship Series to communism.

Republican Rep. Joe Barton of Texas said Friday that efforts to tinker with the BCS are bound to fail. He told a House hearing that the BCS is like communism and can’t be fixed.

Barton has introduced legislation that would prevent the NCAA from labeling a game a national championship unless it’s the outcome of a playoff system.

The coordinator of the Bowl Championship Series told the panel that a playoff system would threaten the existence of celebrated bowl games. Fans, President Barack Obama and some lawmakers favor a playoff system.

1. That was Stupid
Edited on Sat May-02-09 08:17 AM by erpowers
His comment was completely stupid. There was no point to compare the two things and it was just a cheap debate tactic.

In addition government should stay out of this. I am not one of those government stay away types, but considering the problems this country is facing Congress should not be getting involved with this. There are just too many problems in this country at this point for Congress to get involved with this. Let the presidents of the schools deal with this issue.

2. I think Mike Belotti was more on target
when he likened the BCS to "a bad disease, like a cancer".

3. I hate the BCS...but
if the government forced the NCAA to change, wouldn't that be somewhat socialist Mr. Republican congressman?
