Gruden heads to Monday Night Football
Reported by: Cary Williams

Last Update: 12:17 pm

TAMPA, FL -- Former Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden will join play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico and analyst Ron Jaworski in September, according to a news release from ESPN.com.

Gruden will replace Tony Kornheiser, who's stepping down after three years on the job.

"This is a tremendous opportunity and I am very excited to be associated with ESPN and Monday Night Football," Gruden said in a statement. "I grew up a fan of Monday Night Football, and whether I've coached on Monday night or watched, I've hardly missed a game all these years.

4. Gruden won a Super Bowl
that's more than you can say for the group of losers the Dolphins have had since '72.

20. How is him puting up a deceptive score pwning me?
The 49ers out-performed Miami in every category that game.

How can anyone say the Dolphins won that game?

Trumad is still mad we kicked their ass in the Super Bowl.

11. He will suck even worse than he did with the Bucs.
If I had a son and he came to recruit him for ND I'd throw his ass out so fast he wouldn't know what hit him. He is a total poser and self promotional prima donna with no concern for his players, the seriously injured included. No way would I put my kid at his mercy.

7. This is certainly welcome news
Kornheiser was a clown that offered nothing in the way of useful comments or commentary. Hopefully I can turn off the mute on Monday night football.

13. Chucky will be the perfect replacement for Howard Cosell.
He'll sit there name dropping and gushing over the players talent. He won't offer one critical word on plays or players, or offer any critical insight on football X's & O's. It'll be like having some beat writer from a Hollywood tabloid in the booth.

15. There is no one that understands the game of football better than head coaches
especially those that have won a Super Bowl. As such, why would you compare him to those that have zero back ground or subject matter expertize?

22. Most people don't want the analysis too technical. Non-players/coaches
are often better at translating the game to the non-players watching.

16. Kornheiser absolutely sucked on MNF.
So this will be an upgrade. Nearly anyone would have been.

17. Agreed.
I used to turn down the MNF TV violume and listen to a radio broadcast while watching. The time delay wasn't nearly as annoying as Kornheiser was.
