Since attendance is of utmost importance, then riddle me this batboys...
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 12:53 PM by madinmaryland
Given the ratio of the size of the cities of SF and Pittsburgh:

SF - 7.62M
PI - 2.43M

Now using San Francisco crowd draw (of 2.8M) as our basis, then the reasonable crowd draw for the Pirates should be 892K for the year. Pittsburgh drew nearly twice that number. Now if the Giants were to draw crowds at the rate of the Pirates they should have an attendance of nearly 5M last year. That to me sounds like the Giants are the team that needs to work on their attendance.

No STFU twins, and get back to your homework.

1. Not an accurate comparison
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 01:54 PM by Auggie
The metro number you include for San Francisco includes the East Bay which is the market for the Oakland A's. I don't think it's fair to include that territory in attendance draw.

A better comparison might be by CITY LIMITS, which according to Wikipedia are estimated to be 312,819 for Pittsburgh and 744,230 for San Francisco.

2. I'd go see the Pirates play
I like the city of Pittsburgh (or I will like them again, once the Cup is finished). And I bet the food's better in Pittsburgh, too!

3. Ummm, the city and county of San Francisco's population is 809,000
I'll even let you throw in a generous million more people to cover part of the South Bay and Marin County.

That still amounts to less than your figure in Pittsburgh where only one "professional" baseball team is competing for fans. :eyes:

7. No trumad, the East Bay is not part of the Giants territorial claim under
MLB rules, so no.

That's like tacking Orange County on to LA's population.

No. Two separate areas split by the water.

11. They're not his rules. And I fully support the Giants' position to
fight to keep the A's from moving to San Jose and weaseling in on our fan base.

Fuckers.

They should stay in Alameda County where they belong .. in front of crowds barely bigger than the embarrassing ones which are counted in Pittsburgh.

14. Exactly....Giants aren't buckling on this issue
and they shouldn't, Santa Clara County has always been Giants territory, always will be....

Always thought there was something weird about A's fans, sort of like Pirates fans..what there is of them.

8. When is madinmaryland going to hold a press conference admitting he
made a mistake with his population figures.

He sure talks a big game for someone who, when called out for being wrong (which is often), slips into the night without a trace.

Shameful. :puke:

10. You know, I just reran the numbers, and
assuming you use the actually city limits, the numbers still are similar.

Even if you could fudge the numbers in a fashion that would help the Giants, they would still indicate the numbers that the Pirates draw is in line with what the Giants draw.

13. Check this out
Markets of 2-3 million people

Pittsburgh Pirates
Minnesota Twins
Cleveland Indians
San Diego Padres
St Louis Cardinals
Colorado Rockies
Tampa Bay Rays

Markets of 1-2 million people

Kansas City Royals
Cincinnati Reds
Milwaukee Brewers

Now we'll take a look at this season's attendance rankings involving those 10 small market teams..

St.Louis-5th
Milwaukee-9th
Colorado-13th
Minnesota-17th
San Diego-18th
Tampa Bay-20th
Cleveland-23th
Kansas City-25th
Cincinnati-26th
Pittsburgh-30th

Anyway you look at it, Pirates fans lack of support for their team is a disgrace. Your attempt at trying to defend this embarrassment only serves to highlight it....

17. "Pirates fans lack of support for their team is a disgrace."
According to that other thread, when a fan DOES support a bad team that is ALSO a disgrace to you. Those loyal fans are losers, but if they're not loyal they're also losers. I look forward to your apology to the Nationals fan, as you clearly think loyalty is a crucial component of being a "real" sports fan, and if a Nationals fan doesn't exemplify dedication and loyalty, what does? You should be extra thrilled with that poster, in fact, and I hope to see your enthusiasm about loyalty to a team get shared with that poor, suffering, loyal Nats fan.

And remember, your attempt at trying to defend your blatant hypocrisy only serves to highlight it....

Why do you and koby4 get such hard-ons talking about attendances? What's going on in the stands there dude??
