Major League Baseball attendance notes

Good thing the Washington Expos moved from Montreal to improve attendance figures

:sarcasm:

But, you can't place the entire blame on the Washington fans. They don't have a new stadium and .. ohhhhh wait...

Nationals Monday Drew 12,473 Fans At
Nationals Park For Game Against Braves

NATS ALSO SEE DOWNTURN AT GATE: In DC, Tim Lemke noted the Nationals drew a paid attendance of 12,473 for Monday night’s game against the Braves at Nationals Park. That figure includes “all season tickets and advance sales, and it’s an awfully low number even if you assume that not one single person walked up and bought a ticket at the box office.”

Lemke: “Let’s assume that all of the paid attendance came from season ticket holders alone.

That would mean that the Nationals season ticket base is 12,473, or about 6,000 less than last year, a 33% drop.” Lemke writes, “Yes, the luster of the new ballpark has worn off. Yes, the team is not winning a ton of games. Yes, the economy has hurt a lot of people. But a drop of that is pretty striking, especially when you consider that the team lowered prices almost across the board prior to this season”

(WASHINGTONTIMES.com, 4/21). :wow:

2. Oh yea, I just noticed that. I was more focused on all of the very many number
of empty seats.

3. When I lived in Cleveland it was not uncommon to draw a few thousand
towards the end of the season to see the Indians. This was in cavernous Municipal Stadium, way back in the late 60s/early 70s.

On the plus side -- it was easy to get good tickets.

4. Yea...that place held what, something like 80,000? So a crowd of a few
thousand looked more like a crowd of a few hundred.

Every once in awhile during the Giants games, I'm amused when Duane Kuiper starts painting a picture of the place.

I'm glad I got to at least walk around and peek inside before it was torn down.

Definitely the Candlestick Park of the midwest.

6. That's a beautiful stadium you have there in San Fran.
Fuck it, apparently I don't know where any of the other stadiums are, might as well stay consistent. :silly:

Kansai International Airport in Japan is a man made island made specifically for the airport. Cool stuff! I so want to visit Japan.

9. Yea..you've seen what the luxury area they're building in Dubai, right?
I realize luxury and Dubai are redundant, but I've been following this every since I saw it one TV. Don't know if you saw it, but it's an amazing accomplishment keeping the waves/water flow from eroding the islands. I can't wait until my place is finished being built!!!

11. Do you think the attendence would really be better if they were still in Montreal ?
Particularly if the MLB still "owned" the team like they did for the last few years of L'Espos.

12. Hopefully you're not a lawyer. --- The point is everyone was screaming that
the Expos needed to move because nobody gave a shiite about showing up at Olympic Stadium, and thus they should move somewhere in the United States of America where the citizens were absolutely craving MLB.

Everyone raved about Washington DC, how they would have a new stadium, how the government workers would have something to do after work -- to wine and fine their clients -- and on and on!

Of course, I was opposed from the start, since I'm consistent about my opposition of teams relocating.

And it looks like I'm correct again.

13. You know what?
I think the neighborhoods on the waterfront of DC that were slums and had no redeeming value and are now thriving might disagree with your point of view.
Despite your idiotic beliefs, the Nats HAVE made some really nice improvements in a part of the city that desperately needed it.
But of course, that doesn't matter does it? :sarcasm:.
Nor I think the amount of jobs that were brought in to a struggling neighborhood. Who cares about people's lives actually improving...

Pittsburgh Pirates season for a split second...

Wait....that would take FEMA's assistance to accomplish that miracle.....

So, as you were.

19. He got the majority of the wins elsewhere
I'm thinking he's going into the HOF as a Diamondback.
As for that other guy, he's going into the steroid section of the HOF. Yawn.

with the uncertainty of the game going forward tends to do that.

20. Flood watches?
Is that why the Nationals are 27th in the league in attendance?....You must get an awful lot of heavy rain there.

What's much more likely is the poor attendance figures are a result of the economy plus a general apathy brought on by Washington sporting the worst team in MLB.
