I so miss LA and ANA. The Angels' namechange was ridiculous.

1. I still refer to them as the California Angels.
I liked that better, but that's just me.

2. Agreed--surprised announcers don't need cheat sheets to announce
the Angels--the name is too damn long!

3. I am old enough to remember when they were the Los Angeles Angels
Edited on Sat Mar-05-05 10:14 PM by Jack Rabbit
Born in 1961, had a freak third-place finish in 1962, reverted to form in 1963 and finished ninth in a ten-team race.

And now a little Los Angeles Angels history. Does anybody remember Bo Belinsky? He was a left-handed pitcher. In his rookie year (1962), he pitched a no-hitter agianst the Baltimore Orioles; the following year, he got off to a 1-7 start and was sent to the minors. He was briefly engaged to be married to Mamie Van Doren, who was to film acting what Belinsky was to pitching (later, Ms. Van Doren married a much younger minor league pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization).

Belinsky had a reputation as a playboy. He didn't take himself very seriously as a ballplayer. He won only 28 games in eight major league seasons. Belinsky passed awy in 2001 at the age of 64.

4. this was extremely annoying for a few days . . . .

but I'm not sure it really matters in the grand scheme of things. the stretch of interstate that runs between anahiem and los angeles is among the worst in the country, so the odds of "stealing" fans from one another's real home town is remote.

this is about marketing, and (probably) TV rights. humorously, the station that carried the angels last year dumped them in favor of the dodgers about three days after they announced this schizoid little maneuver.

5. LOL
I have had the pleasure of attending games at both Edison Field and Dodger Stadium. Sure is better than attending games at the Twins current home (Metrodome). I miss watching MLB games outside, where baseball is meant to be played.

My husband made me eat a Dodger dog. He told me (he is from Orange County) that my experience at Dodger Stadium would not be complete without it. I loved the retro feel of Dodger Stadium, but hated trying to leave the parking lot (is there a larger clusterfuck in the world?)

Edison Field was cool, loved all the food choices, but if you are a baseball purist (I am), the atmosphere is too distracting. But it didn't take 2 and a half hours to get out of there either!

6. traffic.
is part of the burden that Dodgers fans endure. and the guy that
designed the parking lot and the interstate access was clearly a
coke nose.
:)

7. no freaking doubt
When we went, I was amazed at how terrible the design was. It was by far worse than the old Metropolitan Stadium (former home of the Twins) which had only two entrances and exits, and took a good half an hour to get out of.

8. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...WTF is up with that?
Ridiculous--you're absolutely correct.

9. Hmm. How about OCA?
The Angels of Orange County. Doesn't that give a more accurate reflection of who they represent?
