Real Madrid have $130+ million bid accepted for Cristiano Ronaldo
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=654097&sec=transfers&cc=3888

Manchester United have accepted an £80m ($131.6m or ¬93.9m) offer from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

A statement on the United website confirmed that a deal for the 24-year-old should be completed by the end of the month.

''Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

It is now certain that a second era of galacticos has begun at Madird, with news of Ronaldo's £80m deal coming in the same week that Perez agreed a £59m deal ($97m or ¬69m) to sign Kaka. Which means in less than a week, Madrid have committed to spending an incredible £139m ($228m or ¬162.9m) on just two players.

:wow:

I have all the usual questions, about whether attack was really the source of Real Madrid's problems, and how they're going to put these two guys on the field with Robben, van der Vaart, Sneijder, and all the others they have there, and if they're going to feel so much pressure to play these guys that they forget about the other end of the field, but that's for another time.

$228 million in transfer fees alone, for two players. Wow.

2. Ronaldo and Real: a perfect match.
One as scummy as the other :-)

You gotta love the fact that the genius that is Kaka will now be in the shadow of the ego that is Ronaldo....only at Real.

Here we go again, Galactico mania - too-many-to-count forwards/wingers, and hardly a decent defender in the squad.

Smash 'em Barca, please!

3. I'm going to miss seeing Ronaldo during Man U games.
And they're on pretty much every week.

This works on all levels for me. United will be weakened, and Real will give Barca fits. And, perhaps best of all, now we don't have to read weekly "Real target Ronaldo" stories in the media. That was a will-they-won't-they story that desperately needed an ending one way or another.

5. Goodbye and good riddance
now if I'm watching a match involving Man U I won't have to see Ronaldo dive and snivel all the time.

I'm not a big La Liga fan so the only time I'll have to put up with his antics is during international play or the Champions League.

The spending is really getting out of control.

8. Madrid isn't done.
I'll bet they end up signing either David Villa or Ribery before the transfer window closes. Florentino Perez is dead set on starting up the whole Galacticos thing again, and I don't think he cares how much money he has to spend to do it.

7. Man U would be better off spending that money finding
a new right back, rather than a direct replacement for Ronaldo. Yes, Ronaldo was fantastic, but United will not lack for goals next campaign. Rooney's tally will resemble his recent work with England as he will shift from being a playmaker with Ronaldo to being a finisher.

Tevez might stay now, because he'd be assured more play time. That, or if SAF decides to shift away from having three forwards for the next campaign and opens up more options for midfield, there are plenty of excellent players up for grabs and players who'd been riding the bench and now get a chance to prove their worth.

I'd really like to see the swap with SC Portugal of Nani for Joao Moutinho, then using some of the cash to get David Silva. My ideal midfield for next year would be Silva, Carrick, Scholes, Joao Moutinho.

United could shed a few more players, but probably won't. Giggs, Park, and Hargreaves are the first that come to mind.

9. Ronaldo is one of those players...
...who you could never cheer for, even if he was on your own side!
