I just found the very first poem I ever wrote

I think it was part of some school exercise, my mom had me do when I was 10 I think.

Halloween is fun.
Halloween is colorful and bright.
When the goblins and ghouls come out to play
with the witches and warlocks,
and the skeletons and bats.
When children go trick or treat,
with treats on their minds,
but if you give them a trick they wont mind.
Children dressed like pumpkins, clowns and ghosts.
If you see a goblin you might wonder if it’s real,
but do not worry goblin’s don’t bite.
Halloween is fun.
Halloween is colorful and bright.

So bad... LMAO.

Yeah I do write poety... one of my most recent poems is posted somewhere on this forum, if you want to check it out? :shrug:

You should just give writing poetry a chance, even it's bad.. you don't have to show anyone. ;)

6. Just capture your thoughts and any images that present themselves

to your attention, out of the myriad things you could think, see, say, hear - capture any part of it, compile what you capture, look at it now and then, respond to what you've captured, repeat.

7. Since you were brave, I will share my first poem as well.

I wrote this when I was about 9 or 10 when the word gay had a different meaning to me.
Interesting enough mine is about a holiday as well.

Christmas is a time for giving.
Also a very good time for living.
It makes me and others gay.
And in the mood to give gifts away.
Which leaves me with only one concern.
I hope I get some in return.

We had to write a Christmas poem for school & I had a weird sense of humor even back then.

Especially for a ten year old. Structure, good diction, imagery...most ten year olds, let alone older people, would know how to utilize those things to form an effective poem!
