The Lords of Order and the Lords of Chaos had a game.

and at stake were the souls of all mankind. Chaos played against Order's strengths allowing mankind to indulge in any number of self destructive pursuits at which they were very skilled and apt to do. While the virtues of Chaos were embraced by a great number of mankind Order saw fit to lie in wait and to manifest in fewer but stronger numbers as the virtues of hope and compassion and the people that embraced these grew wise and kind and capable of great healing.

A paradox existed for the two groups.

The followers of Chaos desired all to be orderly and predictable and easy and yet their desire for this caused more chaos still because when things are easy they are easily corrupted.

Order desired order and justice in the universe as did its followers, but to attain order great times of chaos must be endured.

So the game became the struggle between the followers of Chaos being so attached to the ease of being detached from the Chaos they caused and the followers of Order who could seemingly only act in the wake of the result of Chaos.

The struggle continues to this day.

Reincarnated again and again into different bodies they would be essentially normal humans until they were awakened to their true nature and purpose. Some of the avatars would go through a whole lifetime or even several without having their nature revealed to them and they would simply be born again. Part of the rules of Chaos and Order was that neither's avatars would gain their full strength and understanding until they were awakened by a guide or another avatar that had learned their nature.

These meetings and awakenings were left to absolute chance, fulfilling Chaos' role in the game. Order conceded this advantage to Chaos because it knew it's avatar's greatest power came in reaction and defense. There was also a rule of equality. When an agent of one faction became aware the other side couldn't intervene directly but could set forth some random events that may nudge one of their own agents into being. Again, Order used chaos against Chaos in this way.

Many of these abilities were common to both sides and some were very specifically related to the agents themselves. Agents of Order who were healers in their human lives would gain enhanced abilities to create, mend and bind. Agents who worked with the law gained great powers of vision and intuition. Chaos also followed this pattern and each side had its healers, seers and warriors.

Is it intended as a story as-is, or is this a synopsis/treatment of a story?

At present, it reads a little like the write-up on the back of a sci-fi video game. That's not bad, exactly, but it does sort of leave a bit to be desired in terms of story.

Perhaps more troublingly, the wording is rather opaque in a few places, making it somewhat difficult to wrest the meaning from what's on the page:andare a little bit clunky, don't you think?

Also, you seem to have a bit of trouble with commas, and their omission makes it even more difficult to parse the meaning of the text.

One last thing:Why would "the followers of Chaos" want anything at all to be "orderly and predictable," when this would seem at odds with their nature?
