I wrote the best DU post that anyone has ever written -- TRIBUTE

I am writing this just a few hours after Barack Obama's historic acceptance speech in Denver.

I got Skinner's request for money that I got in the PM earlier, and was touched by how honest it was and how not pushy it was.

I wrote a whole post about how grateful I was that I wasn't being pushed around like most requests for donations and that Obama's cause was defintely worth my money, but I would not be able to donate this time. I had exceeded my quota. I was filled with emotion when I wrote it.

I encouraged people to donate if they could. And that if they truly could, it would be guilt free. But I cautioned people who were excited and impulsive and unsure if they could afford like I have been in the past to help out in other ways.

I pledged to take care of my sick and elderly relatives, to do my job right, plan for the future, prepare for emergencies, build new relationships and strive to look for and learn about new ideas that will be helpful to the community, and a few other things I'm not sure I can remember. Picking up litter is another one, I just thought of now.

I also said something about I would not be doing anything for the campaign out of a sensse of guilt. Not one donation, or phone call to strangers who have been receivind dozens of calls in another state, or yard sign or stuffed envelope. I would, to the best of my ability, serve in other ways. I'm planning on a bumper sticker, and lots of blogging, god willing, but harassing people on the street with video cameras and making fun of them because they disagree with me politically, is a thing of the past. Calling someone names because they're not being fair or getting even with them, is out, too. I plan on doing my job well, because it is the right thing to do. The truth will set us free. If someone recognizes me for that and I get promoted, great. If not, then I'll keep trying. Giving up should not even be in the same sentence as the H word.

Okay, that last bit I wrote just now, but after I wrote this beautiful, powerful post on what could be one of the most historic nights in the history of the country, and I was sure it was perfect and I would become famous for my compassion and my ability to say just the right thing at the right time. I hit the "post message" button, and an error message came up. I clicked the back button, and my message, which had not been copied or saved in any way was gone.

I was incredibly, incredibly upset for a minute or two. I tried remembering what I wrote, but it came out like I was lecturing people to save money like someone who lectures people. And then I thought about the writing forum, and I decided to start writing about what I tried to write and ask if anyone has ever gone through this kind of thing. What a dissapointment I almost had. I don't feel like I'm whining now, but when I started writing this post, that was what I was afraid it was going to be.

So? Does anyone have any feedback? A whole combination of things are falling into place in the past month or two. Just watching Joe Biden talking about his father's advice, "Get Up! Get Up!" has helped a lot to lift a great fog from my mind. I have my own stories of overcoming adversity. It does a body good.

Anyway, I'll reply later, but for now, thank God for Barack Obama.

Tonight is his night, along with the rest of America.
